Catching Chubs at Scofield - catfool - 09-09-2013

I'm going down to Green River for a little catfishing the end of the week and thought I'd stop by Scofield to catch some chubs for bait. Never been there so I figured I could get a little help from someone about getting some for bait. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a simple worm on the bottom should get you plenty.

This has nothing to do with the chubs, but I was catfishing down on the Green near the town of Green River earlier this year and caught quite a few on shrimp. Nothing big though.

A few years ago I basically used worms with some gel that berky use to make and dang that stuff worked amazing but I have never seen the gel ever since then. Maybe some crawdad spray would work. I literally had a one every time I tossed it out. If your on a float tube or a boat head out where there's tons of weeds about 2-3 ft of line and a bobber.

Just below the spillway at the dam there are thousands of them! That should narrow down the area to fish for chubs.

i caught one on a woolly bugger last week. I noticed that I had several hit the fly and they had trouble holding on and hooking. Try small hooks, I was using either a 6 or 8 hook.

I'm not sure what works as far as bait to catch the chubs, but.....if you head over to the cove by the boat ramp on the north side of the lake & throw just about ANY dry fly, you'll catch a chub EVERY cast. Literally. They don't care what you chuck at them. Please, go, catch them ALL!

Those chubs do make some GREAT jig tipping meat come ice fishing time though......so let me take that back. Please, go, catch ALMOST all. Leave me about 10 please. [Wink]
