"Federal" Lake Closure Decision Reversed - BearLakeFishGuy - 10-08-2013

U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials informed the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) this morning (Wednesday 10/9/2013) that they have reversed their decision to close all USFS boat ramps in Utah as part of the government shutdown. All USFS boat ramps will now be open, including those at Strawberry and Flaming Gorge reservoirs. Forest Service officials also indicated that campgrounds, outhouses and fish cleaning stations will still be closed. Please keep federal closures such as these in mind when planning their activities.

I, along with most rational and intelligent Utahns, think the United States Forest Service or at least the "upper management" (using the word management loosely) is going a little too far with this. Might as well keep paying Americans that OWN the land that the FS watches over, not collect the fees from camping, launching etc.
Throw them out on their butts when this is over.

Will there be an actual gate across the sheep creek boat ramp or just cones that can be ignored?

Re: [TT600] More Lake Closures... thanks to the feds - Ryno - 10-09-2013

The information regarding the Flaming Gorge National Recreation area is inaccurate as of 600PM today, Tuesday October 8th. It was a miscommunication, although I'm unsure of the original source. According to local USFS staff, the Rec Area launches are still open for use, including both the reservoir and the Green River below the dam.

Hope that helps, Ryno

I can't speak for everyone but I have never had a federal employee help me launch my boat. So now that some are being temporarily sent home they are going to show how relevant they are and close the ramps down that everyone launches at without any help? I guess all I can say is that I would hate to see the barricades go for a boat ride and "accidently"get deep sixed.

So are the launches open at Bear Lake? How are the water levels?

Thanks for the update.

Seeing how Bear lake is a state park it should not be effected.

Subject: More Government Shutdown-Related Closures - Will Affect Anglers and Hunters
U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials informed the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) today that all developed facilities owned by the USFS are being closed because of the federal government shutdown.
The facilities the USFS is in the process of closing include all concrete boat ramps, outhouses and campgrounds. This includes the boat ramps at waters such as Strawberry, Flaming Gorge and Pineview reservoirs.
The only good news the Utah DWR received is that roads on National Forests remain open. Also, anglers should still be able to fish from the shore and from small boats that can be launched by hand.
There may be additional closures on federal lands, but the DWR has not received any other information at this time.
Please encourage hunters and anglers to keep federal closures such as these in mind when planning recreational activities.
**********
This information is being shared by DWR with select media, through the Division's website, social media channels and on various online discussion forums. Wildlife-related recreation activities are highly popular this time of year and so we're trying to keep our customers updated.

contact your state representatives and ask them to stop this madness!!

So, does this mean Firehole will be closed this weekend?

Is this an immediate closure? We are planning on taking a boat there tomorrow (Wednesday).

Good luck. Let us all know if you get your boat on the water or not.

Amazing! I went home after work yesterday and helped my 25 year old son load up the boat and all the fishing tackle so he and a couple of friends could fenture out to Strawberry this mornin. Well needless to say he called me at 11:00 pm aking questions of this Fed boat ramp closure. Nice post, " In the process of closing the ramps" What the heck! Is that now or is that in a week. Now that took some very smart person to write that!!! About like all the idiots in Government!!!. Poor kid took the day off work and now he's going to stay home!!!!

Has anyone been to Pineview to see if they have actually closed the ramp? That seems pointless since all the employees have already left Pineview for the year. Maybe I will have to find somewhere else to go saturday.

Just keep in mind that it is ANY boat ramp on Forest Service land.

email your representative.

I fished Pineview yesterday, and there was a guy in a truck from the concession operator driving around - but not collecting fees. I think he was more of an anti-vandalism guard than anything else. He waved me to the ramp.

They've bulldozed most of the mud off the bottom of the ramp, and cleared out a lot of brush, btw.

Welcome to the site UU34. If that is the kind of message they wrote, that would mean that you can still launch your boat until they close the ramp. It is not closed, imo unless it is offical, by that sign I'd say it is not offical yet. Did he try any of the other ramps, while he was still up there?

Not sure if he made up to Stawberry or not. He has not replied to any texts so I assume he did go fishing. He didn't take the boat I do know that. If he ended up at or near SB I will let you all know. Thanks for the welcome to BFT.

Update: We've just been told that as of this morning, the U.S. Forest Service has reversed its decision to close the boat ramps at Strawberry, Flaming Gorge and Pineview reservoirs. However, the restrooms, campgrounds and fish-cleaning stations at these waterbodies will remain unavailable.

Thanks Amy. Too bad about the campsites though...that is where the money is and the Hunters want to be.
