Christmas at Henry's - Tazasorus - 12-26-2013

So we rented a room at Wild Rose on the North side of the lake for Christmas eve. We were on the ice at about six thirty. It wasn't hot and heavy, but between seven of us we iced at least seventy fish. I set up in front of wild rose and was to close to edge in weeds. It's so hard to pick up and move with all the gear. So at about noon I decided to employ my stick and move with my buddy. We strapped the auger to front of four wheeler, two rods each and we would stop on a spot, drill five holes and give it fifteen to twenty minutes. First we went towards the hatchery and stopped about a hundred yard from all that open and agitating water. Landed two fish. Then turned and headed opposite way towards Staleys stopping periodically. We hit the deep hole in the middle but only scratching a couple fish per stop. Finally last stop we hit a honey hole. About 12 feet deep and full of unfished fish. My vex went nuts. I landed a dozen in 45 minutes including this beauty. 22.5 inches and right at 5 lbs. Caught some pretty brookies too.

That is one chubby fish! glad to see I wasn't the only one who over ate this holiday season [laugh]. Sounds like a great day overall too! Wish I was going to have time to hit Henry's one more time before New Years, but it looks like it will be soft water out there next time I fish it. Good luck out there boys! and Merry Christmas

How was the water clarity up there? We fished the state ramp area to wards goose bay on Monday and the water was all types of stirred up, visibility was terrible prob 2-3 feet in the water, made the fishing slow. Had to slow the jig way down and ended up catching 3 decent fish.

I could see the bottom. Clarity good for at least that day. Before we went up the weather was calling for 3 mile an hour winds....We got 20 sustained in the afternoon. Thank goodness for the shacks, my wife would have froze. Always surprises when fishing Henry's. Did have a neat story from a guy fishing near the hatchery. As I heard it, he felt something land behind him and like twenty feet away was a huge bald eagle eyeing the fish he had just caught. He thought, buddy if your that hungry you can have it, tossed him the fish, which he pounced on and preceded to eat the whole thing right in front of him. Now that would have been pretty cool!

I've heard the Turkey is way smarter then the Bald Eagle, any truth to that? Never, fed a Turkey on the ice.

I keep my fingers crossed for a Turkey Vulture.....
