So close...Pineview 1/2/2014 - cd3rapala - 01-03-2014 It was the normal slow perch fishing at pineview. All of a sudden, my buddies son's pole (which he isn't paying attention to) gets a hit. I go to set it and it feel big....very big. "Oh you need to tighten the drag" I thought to myself. So I did and line kept coming out. Hmm...that can only mean one thing... Sure enough...it kept going and you could feel the power of that fish. I hand my buddy the pole with the words "TIGER MUSKIE" mixed in with lots of cursing. Some other guys ran over to see what all the fuss was about...and man...this guy was big. We had an 8in hole and his eyes were on either side of it. One of the guys had the right idea to use the ladle handle to grab its head and try to line it up. The fish broke off, which is just as well because I don't think we could have got it through that hole if we wanted to. My buddies daughter caught one look of that beast ,grabbed his leg ,and would not let go. Man..that would have been epic...thanks for the help guys (who ever you are). Other than that only 5 perch on the ice. [signature] Re: [cd3rapala] So close...Pineview 1/2/2014 - albinotrout - 01-03-2014 Wow, that is one big fish. Nothing like a surprise eh? That was easily a 40lb fish. I always seem to hook them when I'm not fishing for them....oh well. I hooked a good sized musky and was playing it when a good intentioned ice fisherman came over very excited, he more than me. He looked down the hole and started to get more excited, wanted to help and grabbed my line...it broke! Could not get ![]() [signature] Re: [cd3rapala] So close...Pineview 1/2/2014 - Troutman_2 - 01-03-2014 The best way to catch a Tiger Muskie is to catch a perch on a steel leader rig and reel it in VERY SLOWLY! [signature] Re: [Topehaw] So close...Pineview 1/2/2014 - Jordanporritt - 01-03-2014 Agreed. The state record was only 33lbs 9 oz. But I know how it goes when you get excited, they always look heavier than they are. Biggest fish I've ever seen in fresh water though.
