Things I Have Too Do! - fishjon - 02-18-2014 I don't know how many of you are like me, but I always count the beginning of soft water as the new (fishing)year. Hear is my list of things I hope too do, and in many cases, need to do in order to feel like I'm taking advantage of this amazing life. Sit on a rock at Willard bay in a rain (sleet/snow) storm until two in the morning so I can catch enough walley(2)for tacos. Reading tubetudes march/april lincoln beach posts wondering how in the hell that old man catches so many more catfish than me. Cast Clausers to spawning/guarding crappie, bass, and stripers at the most beautiful lake on earth. Have a lakeshore BBQ featuring my mom's famous Cajun lemon marinade and American Falls trout fillets that take up a whole grill. Cast sofa pillows over the 4th to hungry salt river browns and cutties on my inlaws wy ranch. Lay awake all night at the end of October in a cold sweat, anticipating watching big Lakers chase my tube jig around the finder. Watching my fish finder for 14 hours straight and daydreaming about sitting on a rock at Willard Bay.[ ![]() Sharing all these things with friends and family. Here's to another great year! What are some of your have toos? [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - doggonefishin - 02-18-2014 Good post. Here were a few I thought of while winding down from the workday. 1. Fish Strawberry on the hard deck in March and early April every chance I get, all the while thinking that I crushed it with the browns and bows on the Provo this time last year and wondering if I shouldn't have gone fly fishing instead. 2. Fish the LoPro on the fly next month and being reminded that Strawberry is always good to me this time of year and I always crush it when I go there in the spring before ice out. 3. Silently lamenting the last of ice off and thinking to myself that early ice off is highly anticipated but seems somewhat overrated. 4. Catching the first good mess of crappies and bluegill at Utah lake, then subsequently taking the kids to enjoy the good action and accompanying fish fry for a month or so. 5. Awaiting the appearance of smallies in the shallows and some of the best bassin of the year. 6. Taking whatever kids that want to come to a small creek by our cabin with abundant dink brookies that have entertained our family for 3 generations. 7. Praying I can manage to get to the high country a few times every summer. Seeing how the pet golden trout survived through the winter. 8. Enjoying all the fall fishing in its magnificant variety. 9. Annoying my hunting buddies because I'd rather sleep in and fish after a couple days in the field. 10. Enjoying the combo of last open water and early ice at the end of the year. 11. Doing it all over again the next year. 12. Wishing I could fish more and work less. (all year) . [signature] Re: [doggonefishin] Things I Have Too Do! - fishjon - 02-18-2014 Love it. Especially #9. I could write a whole other list for my hunting stuff. [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - CoyoteSpinner - 02-18-2014 Spring cattin. I'll quit while I'm ahead. (yeah, you heard me southern boyz! [:p]) I could go on about Bass-n-Gill beds, River Suckers, Carp-escapades, the ever elusive Walleye hunt, Crappie Slabbin, and the inevitable Slime-Fest, maybe a Koke-fest too! I could say something about chasing toothy Musky, but alas...not likely lest I get a better 'View. The Weighs and Means of Willard's skunk...and the wait for low enough water that the Powersquad gives up on Newton so I can a Perch-stringer-fill. But - I won't go into all that. Just suffice it to say, Hope to do More and Better than I did last year. Our motto at work (one of) is "Continuous Improvement". Of course - they've also moved to expecting ZERO errors, so it doesn't leave much room to grow. Alas.... Here's to hoping to share in someone's lottery winnings, so I can fish more, work less, and worry for nothing. Here's to Fresh gas, tight lines, and sharp hooks. [inline 404806_561072590578225_1072612491_n.jpg] And hey - how about hooking up one of these! Re: [doggonefishin] Things I Have Too Do! - wagdog - 02-18-2014 [quote doggonefishin]Good post. [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - MasterDaad - 02-18-2014 The beginning of this year for me is all about new water toys. My father and I are very anxious to launch a '76 Starcraft Supersport with Merc 850 we've been working on through the winter. Deer Creek Saturday is not out of the question.... just need a few more feet of ice coverage to melt all the way to the ramp and we'll be on the water. Next, I've been building a pedal pontoon boat that just began early testing before Ice-On and I'm anticipating a good season fishing with it. Finally, I broke out the "weekday morning electrified tube" and made a few more modifications (primarily to the additional floatation) that I cannot wait to try. As far as fishing goes, if I can add as many fishing "highlights" as I did last year, that'd be just dandy. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=856891;#856891 I would like to get out on a few more trips with some BTF'ers this year. I really want to see that peddle boat. but I also want to show off the Fuzion. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Things I Have Too Do! - MasterDaad - 02-19-2014 Yes I can't wait to try the pedal toon out again. A design idea hit me this week for a "flex mount" that will hopefully remove the need for a rudder. Tomorrow is my build day and I'll be posting back in the pedal pontoon thread with pictures (I hope). I'm interested to see the Fusion too. To be quite honest, the pedal idea I really like, but the pontoon I have is definitely a short-term item for me. It's too rugged and heavy for my needs. It'd be a river-runner's dream with the thick PVC covers, but it's more bulk than I need for my lake/pond trips. I'll fish with what I have this season but I'll probably dump both my tube and the toon in favor of a frameless something I can put the pedals on for next year. The Fusion may be a good option. We'll have to hit Strawberry sometime. I've never fished the Renegade area and would like to try it. [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - brookieguy1 - 02-19-2014 First of the year brook trout on those southern Utah alpine lakes. How did they winter? Are they bigger? Numbers? Which do I hit first? How much snow? Which 4 day weekend do I chance weatherwise? Motel or camp? Winterkill? What brand of bourbon? Will I run into PBH? [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - catfish77 - 02-22-2014 Haha..can I join you on the Salt? [signature] Re: [catfish77] Things I Have Too Do! - fishjon - 02-23-2014 Onry old farmer doesn't even let me fish it if I ask. So I stopped asking[ ![]() [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - catfish77 - 02-23-2014 I had askā¦that's where I learned to fly fish with my grandpa[ ![]() [signature] Re: [humpy] Things I Have Too Do! - fishned - 02-23-2014 [quote humpy]The girl is ok, but that fish is gorgeous![/quote] now that's just sick and wrong [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - Ktrout - 02-23-2014 Two of my to do list items were to ice fish the Gorge and catch my first burbot. I also want to catch a trophy laker. Although I wasn't going for trophy lakers, I did check off two of these yesterday. Kind of strange to be ice fishing and almost open water fishing at the same time. [signature] Re: [fishjon] Things I Have Too Do! - Duckbutter - 02-23-2014 Dave Ramsey has me on a tight budget, that being said I just want to fish the gorge, figure out how to get my two year old and four year old out in a manner in which they have fun, catch fish and stay reasonably clean. I guess that last one isn't too important, but I at least need to tell my wife I tried. I keep telling her a boat is the answer, but Dave Ramsey keeps telling me no. Hopefully 2016, 2017 worst case scenario. I have a free flight and room in Hawaii, so I am pitching in for a charter and will fish salt for the first time ever in April, I have one trip planned for the gorge in July, I have a backpacking trip planned to the Wind river mountains in August. Other than that I just want to get out with my kiddos and fish with the family. Will probably resort to more hiking than fishing this year to help keep the kids happy and wear them out. I don't, however, have a trip planned for Powell this year and it makes me ![]() [signature] |
