Boatable first, DC or UL? - SBennett - 02-25-2014 Place your bet now........ I say DC. [signature] Re: [SBennett] Boatable first, DC or UL? - FattyGreens - 02-26-2014 HMMMM, I'm more agreeing with DC, BUT I'll throw in for Utah. Just need some wind and she will be done! [signature] Re: [FattyGreens] Boatable first, DC or UL? - SBennett - 02-26-2014 I agree one good wind will bust up UL but I think the harbor ice on UL will let DC win this race. I can't wait to drag crawler harnesses at Lincoln Beach! [signature] Re: [SBennett] Boatable first, DC or UL? - MasterDaad - 02-26-2014 I guess it depends on what you mean by "boatable". There were boats on UL yesterday and there is now a group of jon boats sitting on the docks at Lindon Harbor. The lake is accessable from a boat launch at Lindon. It is pretty risky with all that ice still floating around, but UL is "boatable" now. I believe 'Boatable ' is any person is able to launch a Boat and navigate any where on the lake. But at least somebody is enjoying some open water! I've tried just about every fishing technique out there (probably not as many as RonPaulFan, but who has?), and of all of them there is really only one that I just can't stand: dragging a crawler harness. Gag me with a long-handled spoon. I ain't judging, yo. Glad to know the floatables may have access. I also won't argue with you about crawler harnesses, the less you use one leaves more walleye for me! [signature] Re: [SBennett] Boatable first, DC or UL? - MasterDaad - 02-27-2014 I boated UL this evening! We (father and I) launched from Lindon and stayed pretty close to the harbor -- mostly because we were testing a boat we've been fixing up during the winter. The primary objective was to test the restored vessel and run it through its paces. The testing revealed a few more items to add to the repair list (shifting and throttle cables need adjusting) but we were also very pleased with the progress.... particularly the solid engine performance and lack of any sign of leaks. We completed the major tests and had about an hour of daylight to slow-troll some jigs. Nothing made it to the boat but we both had something large on for several reels (I'd guess cats). We're hoping for a DC trip Saturday but not planning on it given the current forecast. [signature] Re: [SBennett] Boatable first, DC or UL? - MasterDaad - 02-27-2014 It was really close to launchable last time I drove by there (Tuesday). There is limited open water at the mouth of Wallsburg but enough to fish. When I was there, someone had a boat sitting on the ramp, but I don't think they launched. Ice was still just a bit too thick. I'll be making a quick run up the canyon Friday to confirm I can launch before going. [signature] Re: [MasterDaad] Boatable first, DC or UL? - SBennett - 02-27-2014 There is a high wind warning Friday night with predictions of between 20-30 at UL and 30-40 in the eastern canyons. If those velocities are reached, I suspect both lakes will be wide open by Sat or Sun night. [signature] Re: [SBennett] Boatable first, DC or UL? - americanforkdude - 02-27-2014 I was at deer creek 2 weeks ago and the water by the walsburg ramp wasnt frozen. I will say if anyone hasn't had a boat on deer creek in the last week or so id be very surprised. I was going to go this morning but had a hole in my boat from an old fishfinder so I bought silicone and that's my job today. However, american fork harbor was still frozen in yesterday along w most of the lake [signature] Re: [americanforkdude] Boatable first, DC or UL? - MasterDaad - 02-27-2014 Then you'll be very surprised. Tuesday there was still 40 yards of thick ice between the bottom of the ramp and the open area you are referring to. I've seen two boats sitting on the launch ramp as people clearly drove up there and intended to launch, but could not... yet. [signature] Re: [MasterDaad] Boatable first, DC or UL? - americanforkdude - 02-27-2014 Good to know thanks. I seen all the open water and was sure it was open at the ramp. I would've been one of the ones at the ramp lol. Guess it'll be starvation for the maiden voyage [signature] Re: [MasterDaad] Boatable first, DC or UL? - FISH_STICK - 02-27-2014 Here is a shot of Deer Creek's FB page from yesterday. Looks pretty telling to me. Edit: remember not to check the Inline box when attacking pics.
