DC sat 19th report - SBennett - 04-20-2014

Fishing kinda slow.
Water was glass until about 11am then wind picked up fast.
My friend and I brought home 8 healthy, not huge, trout. 7 very pink females and 1 very pale male, never noticed that before.
All fish were a blast to catch on ultralight gear with down riggers at appx. 23 feet at appx. 1.4 mph.
The fish liked Kokanee Creek Tackle pink hotheads tipped with single maggot.

Good for you, sounds like fun. BTW do they have the rest of the docks in the water yet? Did you launch at the main ramp by Wallsburg, or by the island? That dang wind is sure reliable every day, and the best reason to get there early so you can get your fishing in before it blows.

I hit DC with the tube Saturday and judging by the first half hour I thought I'd catch 20 fish.

I launched at Island and reeled in both lines before making it to the wakeless bouys. I had landed four in the first 30 minutes just as it was light enough to see.

It slowed from there and when the sun hit the water it really went numb.

I beached at 10AM with an 8 count.

The Water temp had climbed from 48.3 to 49.6 during that time.

Nice report Shane, love those bows. I think during the spawn those males get sort of weird. The scales are hard to remove and they are slimier. I'm bad, but I release them and just keep the hens from the tail end of ice fishing until they get hard to tell the difference again. Thanks for a great report. Later J

Now that you mention it, I do remember him being quite a bit slimier than the females.

Deer Creek has been fun but it is time to move on to Willard Bay!

Sounds good, I think I'll be trying Willard soon. Might run into you out there again, I need some new tips since the water level has dropped, I need to find a new area to work... Good luck when you get out after them... Later J
