Rolfson Reservoir...anyone? - dwayneb - 05-20-2014

Gonna head down and camp near Rolfson. I read there is bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, and various types of trout. Has anyone been down there a caught some fish. Others have said in the past they were skunked...

thanks

Is this the Rolfson by Millers Flat above Fairview? I've tried it a number of times in the fall and have yet to catch a fish or even see one in there if that is the same one.

I'm not sure where you got the information on the fish species. I think someone was messing with you. The reservoir is used strictly for irrigation and is drained during every summer. There are no fish in there. Years ago when I moved to the Price area I went up and fished Huntington Reservoir on a weekend. When I went to work on Monday I told a coworker that I had fished there and didn't do any good. He then explained to me that at that time it was drained every summer. They raised the dam and it now has a conservation pool and as most know has some excellent tiger trout fishing now.
I would hit Cleveland Reservoir as it sounds like the ice is coming off and there are always some good carryover fish in there.
Good luck![fishin]

Ok so the conservation pool with the tiger trout is that Rolfson or huntington ur talkin about. Is there any place that does have bass in that area?

Thanks

The closest place for bass would probably be Huntington North Reservoir. It has largemouth bass, bluegill, wiper, rainbows, browns, catfish, and chubs. There is a campground at the State Park.

Huntington Reservoir is the one with the conservation pool. It has tiger trout and a few cutthroats. The cutthroats are protected so you have to release them.

Good luck![fishin]

Ok...thank you sir i appreciate the info hopefully we will catch at least a couple for the fire...i imagine the shad minnows work well for the larger trout.

I fly fish from a kick boat so I'm not much help on lures/jigs/bait to use, sorry. I do catch trout and wipers using minnow imitations though if that helps.
Good luck!
