wipers and mussels ? - aquaman - 05-25-2014 So what's the low down with the mussels. Fishing them under a float, with a sinker on bottom ? Raw, cooked in garlic and butter sauce ? (lol) any help appreciated thanx [signature] Re: [aquaman] wipers and mussels ? - RockyRaab - 05-25-2014 The short answer seems to be "yes." (Except perhaps for the butter and garlic part...) Thread on a raw mussel or clam, and cast it out. I'd opt for the bobber variant myself, just to help avoid snags. Either way seems to work, but I have to temper that statement with the acknowledgement that I haven't used bait for wipers myself. Watching the bank tanglers convinces me it works. Almost all the mussels available for sale In Utah will be precooked and frozen. They should be thawed gently, allowed to dry slightly and used. How they are rigged seems to vary depending on needs. Keeping them on the hook can be difficult, so you have to figure out how to hook and cast them without destroying them. Mussels have been the only thing I have caught wipers on. But the other day, my dad's buddy caught two on a silver BlueFox spinner. I didn't get a bite. [signature] |
