Koke on fly rod???? - Flyfishinglover - 07-27-2014 Just curious if it's possible to catch a koke from strawberry with a type 2 sinking line right now as well where should I head out and what to use? I sure would like some fresh pan fry koke again after the first of many koke I caught from causey during ice season and pan fried those small suckers were just tasty. [signature] Re: [Flyfishinglover] Koke on fly rod???? - kochanut - 07-28-2014 its not that difficult when they stack before a spawn if you know where to go [signature] Re: [Flyfishinglover] Koke on fly rod???? - mojorizing - 07-28-2014 Kokanee are plankton feeders. During the spawn they have only one thing on their mind. And that's not food. You might be able to aggravate them to attack your fly but it's hard. When they're not spawning it's possible if you can keep your fly around 35' deep and move it about 2+ mph. We've tried it years ago and so have a lot others. Fly fishing for kokes at Strawberry is tough. You keep trying. [signature] Re: [mojorizing] Koke on fly rod???? - MBM1969 - 07-28-2014 I caught one years ago at Strawberry fly fishing Jakes Bay. It was l in the fall and it took a big grey zonker of all things in about 15-20 feet of water. It was silver and was not showing any signs of spawning. Only koke I have ever caught fly fishing. Now you can vertical jig. Try something like a Pistol Pete or a small leach with a spinner blade above it. Use your fish finder to locate the depth of the fish and go to work. Color not really important at that depth but Purple is my choice. [signature] |
