Ricky invited me this AM for a short crappie fishing trip. We finally got a day when the weather was nice, not too hot, not too cold, just right. Wind very gentle. Water temp at beginning was 81.7 warming to 83.4 when we stopped at 11:00 AM. We probably didn&#39;t burn over 1 pint of gasoline. We went out of HBSP and stopped along the Wolftever creek channel edge and found several schools of crappie. From our catch, we figured that either school is out for in service training for the teachers or a bunch of fish are playing hooky. <br /><br />We caught between 30 and 35 crappie with only 1 keeper to show for all our efforts. All the rest had a bad disease. Shortitis. Tail too close to their eyeballs. emoBig
But it was fun proving that we can still catch fish deep. Slick Neon was a hot color in the Bonehead stick jigs. I caught fish on double silver rainbow and full moon BG shads and a panfish albino shad. All fished on 1/16 oz jig heads. I did catch a small white and Ricky caught a small yellow bass and I had something big grab my lure near the end of the morning and streak off like a linebacker chasing down a running back, but alas, it pulled loosed and we never did see what it was. My rule says it had to be a &quot;Drum&quot;. If it is big and it pulls off without eyes ever being laid upon it, it has to be a drum, no matter if you are bass fishing, crappie fishing, catfishing, or what. <br /><br />We saw what may have been a paddlefish surface very near our boat that looked in the 30 lb range. Either that or a blue catfish or big Striper. Probably not a Striper with the water temps being in the 80&#39;s. Thanks for taking me fishing today Ricky.
