beginner fly tying kits - kramer_ - 11-16-2014 A family member really wants to get me a gift and I figured why not a fly tying kit to see if I'm into it. I know that you get what you pay for, but is there anything out there thats not too expensive, yet half way decent? You will build them up automatically. You can start out with some hooks and ask around for some deer hair and elk hair, ask mom (yes even if you are married) for some yarns, some embroidery thread left overs, (the ends that don't get used) pick up a pack or two of dubbing, ask anyone who duck, pheasant, turkey, chucker or grouse hunts for feathers. Learn a couple of streamers first, Mickey Finns, Bunny's, muddlers, Wooly buggers, then move on to some larger dries like Elk Hair Caddis in a 14, then 16, if you like all that you can buy a cape and your off to the races. You tube is your friend. [signature] Re: [kramer_] beginner fly tying kits - flygoddess - 11-16-2014 I have recommended this kit to many. If you look at the fly selection included you will see every single one of them is a useable keeper. It is Wapsi so the quality is definitely there. The Vise is good and can be upgraded down the road if one chooses/ http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Wapsi-Fly-Tying-Starter-Kit/productDetail/Fly-Tying-Tools/prod9999008928/cat101068 [signature] Re: [kramer_] beginner fly tying kits - STEVEF39 - 11-16-2014 I started with the wapsi, great kit to get you started, everything youll need for now.
