A lot of people like them but I don't know why. [][/quote] I'm not necessarily defending trout here. Just expressing my lack of love for catfish. The top 10 reasons I hate catfish. 1. Zombie-like appearance. 2. They have 9 lives. 3. When they are on their 9th life, you can't hardly kill them. Only way I know of to kill them is a hole in the brain. (another zombie like trait.) 4. They are super slippery. Some call trout, slimers, snot rockets, slime rocks, etc. But the catfish has to be the most slippery fish I've ever handled. 5. They eat everything in sight. I've watched huge schools of catfish in Brownlee gorging on baby crappie and it makes me sick. 6. They are stupid. Is there a dumber fish? I doubt it. 7. They are ridiculously easy to catch. Where's the challenge in that? 8. Hmmm. Can't seem to come up with 10. Oh well. I hope that if you read this, you can take it in jest, as it is intended. When I'm fishing, I'm happy with anything that bites. The only thing I don't want to bite are mosquitoes, ticks, deer flies... I like catfish and trout both, though I do have a soft spot for native fishes. Throwing a top water bait and seeing it being sucked down " like a big Large Mouth"... and having to reel in a 8 pound Cat.. grrrrrr. And then having to get my lure out of the slimy thing. If I am fishing for sturgeon and I start catching them I split them open and release them. Learned to catch them trolling and fishing plastics like I was fishing for bass and dang that's fun stuff to get a big ole hog on the line... I agree the bait fish deal isn't quality fishing, but get a kitty in the other methods and they are a whole lot of fun... Takes a little work to figure out other ways to skin a cat, but I'm starting to appreciate the wall flowers... Even had one take to aerial maneuvers last fall like it thought it was a rainbow and to have a 24" fish leaping in the air is sort of a blast and gets your attention... Just my take.... Heck my son has caught a lot on flies. I have also caught a lot on bait. I don't see how a lure is quality fishing and bait is not. Again I don't ride that tall of a horse. I actually fish bait a lot for cats because I like to catch bigger fish and I don't know how to do that consistently without bait. Anyway I'm more guilty of hypocrisy than snobdom and I apologize. Every way I have tried it they were fun and tasty. Sorry I didn't understand your message. I like to use a second rod to fish lures while my bait is soaking. I just use a circle hook and a rod holder and keep an eye on that cat rod as I keep busy with the lure rod. That's just me though. For a few seconds, you think you have hooked into a HUGE Bass only to realize it is a cat, especially during a Bass tournament. I never complain when I get one on the bait rod, but to me I like that surprise when something has ahold of the other end of the line and I get to try hooking it. Just my adrenaline junky kicking in.
