Ckicken Creek East - WhoCares - 01-26-2015

Need a report on how thick the ice is at Strawberry CC East area? And would a 4 wheeler hold up on the ice?
Thanks!

Ice on Saturday was 8-10 inches and there were snowmobiles and ATV's all over

The last time I passed by there the dirt road from the highway to the ice wasn't plowed. Not sure if you can pull down there with a vehicle without getting stuck. There were lots of snowmobile tracks going through there but I didn't see anything showing that a 4 wheeler had been through there either. I thought in years past that road was plowed in the winter? But, honestly, I don't fish it enough to know what the norm is.

I was down there on Saturday and was averaging 12-14" thick ice. The ice was popping and moving a lot. There were snowmobiles on the ice so I assume it's safe for a 4 wheeler. I was there for 3 hours and got skunked, not even a bite. I talked to a bunch of other people out there and they were all getting skunked. I talked to the guys at Cabellas yesterday and they have only been hearing that fishing at Strawberry is slow this year.

The road down to the parking lot was very accessible and I only have a 2-wheel drive truck. Shouldn't be a problem accessing Chicken Creek East.

I'm going to try again this weekend and get out there around sunrise and see if I have better luck.

Good Luck!

Man, so glad I wasn't the only one having a hard time at CCE on Saturday.

I got 1 fish in 6 hours, and it was on the jaw jacker, so it didn't even really feel like I "caught" him. I just reeled him in, haha.

The road down to the parking lot is fine. Half of it was bare ground - no snow. There are a few patches of ice here and there, but I think you'd be absolutely fine in a 2wd right now.

I talked with a few people who were there on Saturday and did ok, maybe 5 fish a person, but nobody had non-stop action or anything.

Almost all of the fish that passed through my sonar were right at 10 to 15 feet. I did have one hooked for a minute that came off the bottom, but most seemed to be suspended.

I never have one of those "incredible" fishing days you read about (60 or 70 fish days) at Chicken Creek. But for some reason I keep going back there. I think I need to start branching out at the Berry.
