Deadwood report. - hooknhunter - 01-26-2015

So I know a lot of people have interest in Deadwood, but not many have the ability or time to get there and/or are willing to go through the effort.

A couple of friends and my brother and I headed up on Friday morning. We had several issues with sleds, hitches, and snowmobiles so it took us about 5.5-6 hours to travel the 35 miles into the lake. We lost the engine on one snowmobile which really set us back and is going to cause at least some of us to have to go back again to get it out.

The fishing was slow at best and might be considered terrible, but still, between 4 of us we managed to catch, rainbows, cutthroat, cutbows, a kokanee, a chinook, and few whitefish. One of the rainbows was a real TOAD. Wish it had been me that caught it. Sure would have helped with the 7 fish challenge.

On the way out, we towed the broken sled to the lodge at Deadwood outfitters and had lunch. The cheeseburger and carrot soup was as good as any I've ever had.

This trip was a real learning experience for us all, but we still had a good time, sleeping on the ice and all. Can't wait to do it again.

Ice was about 6-8 inches in most places, but was soft on the edges in a few places. If you go, be careful. Help is a long ways away. [fishon]

Only other pics I have are the ones I took for the contest.

Wheeler? NO WAY. Not unless you have tracks or perhaps JWHEELZ, but even with JWHEELS I think it would be tough. I think tracks would do it. Better take some extra gas, though.

Actually, no. This was my first winter trip to DW, ever. That other lake you are thinking of we refer to as Nunya Lake. As in Nunya Bidness........[Wink][Tongue]

Oh man, I LOVE Deadwood. Never been there in the winter but have always wanted to try. Very jealous! Congrats on landing that toad. It's a beauty.

Did you ride in from the north? How deep is the snow going over the summit?

We came in through Warm Lake and then headed east, then south. I'm sure you know the route. I never checked snow depth at the summit, but I know if hid most if not all the signs.

Here is the snotel. Click on the open the map tab, Zoom in on the map and click the blue dot, it is what the gov uses for water forcasting. They are those radio sites you see in random places. Best way I found to get snow depth.
