Lowell Blues - Squarehog - 07-08-2015

Iv'e been doing a fair amount of searching for Panfish on Lake Lowell as of late.. The fishing has been sporadic at best, with most fish caught being Bass both Large and Smallmouth up to about 2 lbs.. We finally found some real nice Bluegills today. Around 25 good keepers, released a dozen and also caught close to 20 bass, mostly smallmouth up to 2lbs or so. The blues are dandies this yearhttp://www.bigfishtackle.com/photos/data/500/blues.jpg

Nice blues. Did the bass have bellies? Last time I was there they were pretty skinny.

The bass were fair.. Some more skinny than others.. Some real big smallmouths coming up and checking out the smaller ones after We had hooked them. The nicer largies were fat but the smallies fight way better.I caught one skeleton like smallmouth. Had a bluegill swallow both my jigs on 2 separate rods almost instantly. I thought for sure it was 2 different fish

Re: [Squarehog] Lowell Blues - Duck-Slayer - 07-10-2015

I've done well in Lowell for bluegills, I have caught some very nice bluegills in the 10" range there, but that was years ago, I did eat them at that time, but as the lake gets nastier and nastier not sure I would eat one out of there, lots of great chemicals in that lake I do believe, maybe not as bad as I believe but still, there fun too catch thou, [Wink]

Yeah they are super fun[bobhappy] I have been catching them all in clear water with 8' or more of visibility. The fish are all thick, feisty and very healthy, they ALL stay alive in the fish basket until I get to the gas station for ice to ice them down for a bit before filleting, the meat is very firm, white, and very good eating.. Hopefully it's safe. Mercury isn't normally an issue in panfish as far as I understand.. but I do understand the chemical concerns.. That Lake does get nasty! Here are some from a few years back close to 12"
