Strawberry Help - wyoguy - 07-08-2015 Hey, I'm taking my boat up to the 'berry for the DAV event this weekend and would like some help so I can get my Vet. some fish. I very rarely fish up there, so I'm pretty lost as where to go, any help or advise would be great. If you're not comfortable putting info on open forum, PM me. Thanks in advance. Gary [signature] Re: [wyoguy] Strawberry Help - MasterDaad - 07-08-2015 What do you want to target? The Koke fishing on that side of the lake has been pretty slow from most accounts. I'm not planning to target them unless my Vets really want to spend time getting lures wet in the process. If you do want to target Kokes, follow the large procession of boats that will be headed down toward the dam and entrance to the narrows. That's where we've had our best luck. I have never caught much out in the middle. As mentioned above - I think the koke fishing is winding down; however, you never know?? And of coarse Kokanee Creek Tackle works well up their - squids & spinners tipped with a maggot. Good Luck! Depending upon the veteran assigned to me, I plan on starting out fishing vertically and casting and retrieving white tubes tipped with cut bait. I will start out in about 25' of water and work my way out deeper as the morning progresses. If that isn't an option, or it is not working, I will either switch to PowerBait or troll. If I troll I will likely use a flasher, followed by a whole night crawler threaded up on the hook with a worm threader. That would be fished using leaded line. Or, I might try a flatfish or other type of lure. Lots of options for Soldier Creek/Strawberry. I will be targeting rainbows and cutts only. Our best producers were jointed rapalas in Rainbow or Perch colors downrigged at 18-25 feet. No dodger or flasher in front. A Koke-like set up with a small dodger and wedding ring or small squid was second. We also caught quite a few with an orange spinner tipped with worm. My plan is similar to yours -- jig with some tipped tubes if our Vet is able and Troll as a back up. I also don't plan to specifically target Kokes Saturday. It's been too slow over there -- for me anyway. Flatfish on leaded line or on my downrigger Carter spoons on leaded line or on my downrigger Various Rapala lures long lined or on leaded line or on my downrigger Streamer flies long lined or on leaded line or on my downrigger Jake's Spin a Lures long lined One of my most effective methods was to put a whole night crawler on my downrigger without any other attractant [signature] Re: [wyoguy] Strawberry Help - wyoguy - 07-10-2015 Thanks guys for the input, depending on what the Vet wants to do I have some good info to fall back on. I'll see you up there, be nice to meet more of you guys.
