Mountain View....Duck Valley - Kodiak1 - 10-01-2015

Since we hammered 'em this time last year at Mt. View, we decided it was time to return. We arrived at dawn, and headed to our favorite spot, only to discover it was choked with moss/algae. So, we headed to the dam area, but it was almost as bad there. Last year it was gin clear. Long story short.....one caught and one other hit. We were the only people fishing on the entire reservoir. Never seen that before. The one fish was 21", but too long a trip for one rainbow!! I'd wait at least 2-3 weeks if you are planning on going. Mike

This is the official tribal site. Lots of good info. All the reservoirs close Oct. 31 except Mountain View. It is open year round. I fished Sheep Creek a lot in the winter when it was open year round, and the fishing was always terrific. I haven't fished Mt. View, but there is no reason it shouldn't produce. Some real lunkers in there. Mike

I agree 100%, the tribal site is well done and they've done a good job with keeping it updated. It's probably worth mentioning for anyone that hasn't visited before that you have to purchase a permit from the Ace Hardware in Owyhee to fish on the reservation. I believe you can also still pick one up at Cabela's as well.

I went to Sheep Creek a couple times this year, once in June and more recently in mid September. I found similar conditions to what Kodiak is describing, plenty of moss and algae. The drought conditions in that area have definitely taken a toll on the water quality. During the trip in September I managed to land two, one 13 incher and this much nicer one. I also agree completely that it's an awfully long drive for one nice fish but hey, it's still much better than working!

Hopefully they'll get plenty of snow this winter and the water conditions will improve next year.
