Newton report - Halfastfisher - 02-21-2016 If you got guts, there might be glory. Bring 30 foot planks just for ease of mind. I didn't have guts so there was no glory. Waded out in 18 inches of water then put a shovel thru 1/4 ice 6 feet further. [signature] Re: [Halfastfisher] Newton report - SkunkedAgain - 02-21-2016 Thanks for the report. No guts here either I'll avoid that one. Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Newton report - BagABigOne - 02-22-2016 Hopefully it fills up this year, but I don't hold much hope for many survivors. [signature] Re: [BagABigOne] Newton report - SkunkedAgain - 02-22-2016 I think it will fill, but I'll bet you need three years for the numbers to recover to where it's close to what it was for perch and crappie and like you say I'll bet some things are gone like tigers and the bass will take longer to recover the size that was lost.. Too bad, maybe they should restock trout like in the 80s. That place rocked for nice sized trout. I'll hide from all the fiery darts that comment probably stirred up. Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Newton report - BagABigOne - 02-22-2016 Amen to that it did produce some dandy trout. [signature] Re: [BagABigOne] Newton report - SkunkedAgain - 02-22-2016 That was sure fun for a few years, I loved trolling out there. Those bows would nail it and go airborne it was so much fun. Wish we had a spot that was that much fun again. I think they planted the fish and let them grow for a couple years before they allowed it to be fished, so when it opened it was big fish and lots of action. Oh well doubt we'll see that again. Glad I did once upon a time. Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Newton report - gmwahl - 02-22-2016 I'll bring some wrath onto myself also.... I liked it when there was trout and before the muskies. I caught plenty of nice fish of all species, and though the muskies are fun if you hook one, I thought they screwed the fishing for me. Trout, bass, and perch were my targets and because of the muskies the trout had to go. That sucked because they were always nice sized, fast growing rainbows. Just my opinion though. Mike [signature] Re: [gmwahl] Newton report - SkunkedAgain - 02-22-2016 Kind of my thoughts as well. Guess I haven't really given the Muskie a chance, but I don't think many have survived anyway so it's start over time again. Later J [signature] Re: [Halfastfisher] Newton report - FatBiker - 02-23-2016 Newton actually fished well this year when it froze. We made several trips and caught pretty good numbers of perch, crappie, bass and a few big bluegills. I certainly plan on revisiting this spring. Larry [signature] Re: [FatBiker] Newton report - CVfisher - 02-23-2016 Yeah - Newton was my go to spot this winter until Bear Lake capped. I think there are a lot more fish left over in that pond than you guys think. Crappie have grown a bunch in there in the last 2 years, not sure if its due to a decreased number of musky or just the fact that the low water thinned the herd some. Before ice on last fall we had some exceptional days crappie fishing from shore. [signature] Re: [CVfisher] Newton report - gmwahl - 02-23-2016 That's good to hear. Newton is one of my favorite fishing holes, but I haven't been too charmed the last few years. I'll need to give it another chance in late may and see how I do. Mike [signature] Re: [CVfisher] Newton report - hogstalker - 02-24-2016 What size are we talking about Bigger than pineview? I hope. [signature] Re: [hogstalker] Newton report - CVfisher - 02-24-2016 Last summer we caught quite a few in the 10-11" range. Not huge, but far better than the 6"ers that have been in there.... [signature] Re: [CVfisher] Newton report - BagABigOne - 02-24-2016 That's good news. The kids in our group will be happy, they love fishing for the crappie and blue gills. [signature] |
