Lucky at Willard 7/1 - Jmorfish - 07-02-2016
Finally made it work right - departed early this A.M. from the North Marina, and I was surprised we were the first boat there..plenty of wind the first 2 hours, but that's when the wipers cooperated..buddy and I both did good - he boated 6 wipers and 1 walleye, mine was 5 wipers and 2 walleye, 1-18" and my other one 21", my biggest walleye to date...the 6 wipers kept were all about 15", just a nice size for the plate...I prepared some for supper tonight; my wife and I both agreed -- the Wipers are good, the Walleye are very good...Fire Tiger was the hot color this A.M. We used 2 planer boards with best results, and 1 other rod off the back with 1/4 oz extra weight in front of the Flicker shad, tipped with 1/2 nite crawler...That's what caught the largest Walleye, about 10:30 A.M. Action done by 11:00...I was thrilled to be using my own boat, all my gear -- and it worked right this A.M. Thanks again to WiperHunter and PacFan for some valuable "On the Job Training"....See you on the water...

I was out there yesterday as well with my oldest son, we could only fish until 11, but ended up keeping 2 walleye, 3 catfish and 4 wipers. We started fishing about 7:30. Beautiful weather and no bugs. We actually saw several wiper boils one was only about 50 yards away but they looked like small wipers, we didn't bother to go after them, we wanted to stay bouncing for the walleye. Glad you had a good trip.

Probably some 15 pound wipers under some 6" shad. [
]Sometimes, the bigger wipers will start a boil among the larger shad and since the shad are silvery it makes you think they are wipers when they jump out of the water trying to escape.[signature]

p.m. sent -- when you are bottom bouncing, is your weight more than 2 oz? I tried that for awhile, no luck, but it seemed like I wasn't scraping bottom (at 2 oz) and going 2.5 to 2.9 mph...and if I'm just bottom bouncing for the 'eyes, should I be going slower, which would then make the 2 oz rig actually drag bottom?

I use 1 1/2 Oz. out of the front of the boat and my son uses 1 oz. out of the back. I usually troll from .8 to 1.2 MPH with my bow mount. The size weight also depends on the depth I'm fishing. The general rule of thumb is to keep your line at a 45 degree angle from the water, but there is variables to that if you are trolling over brush or weeds I use a heavier weight maybe up to 4 oz. and troll with my bouncer angle straight down just so i'm ticking the top of the brush or weeds with it.
