Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 Stopped by Mantua on the way to the dentist today, ice is scary nasty stuff and open water around the inlet. We need some real cold to heal this ice, it's rotten ugly stuff. Tried my pond as well and stepped right through it. So bring on some cold, I'm doubting the ice will hold this weekend. Maybe next week. Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Ice Check - Troutman_2 - 12-13-2016 I stopped by Holmes Creek Res. after work today to see if the water had firmed up at all. About 75% of the surface has a thin 1/4" layer of ice. It will most likely melt or get blown off by the weekend with the warm weather. The sunset reflected off the mountains made for a pretty picture though! [signature] Re: [Troutman_2] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 Pretty night and nice pic. Yup I think it would be better to start over on the ice so we get some strong black ice. Edges were all melted and open water in places it's pretty bad right now. Later J [signature] Re: [Cowboy_43] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 I agree a bad layer of ice keeps things questionable all season, let alone rough to drill holes through. Bring on the wind. Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Ice Check - cbassonafly - 12-13-2016 Saturday and Sunday are looking really good for ice making. Wouldn't mind at all if mantua restarts, from the look of it, this weekend and next week will be cold. We might be on the ice for Christmas Eve (fingers crossed) [signature] Re: [cbassonafly] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 I'm afraid it will take at least until Christmas weekend to start us off this year... Hope we make it by then... I had been hoping this week would do it, but doesn't look like it any more... It was good and cold last night, but probably not cold enough to build enough safe ice to get through warm afternoons... Keep hoping... Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Ice Check - PBH - 12-13-2016 are any of you republicans? for those that don't believe that something is happening with our climates, consider ice fishing seasons. There was a time when getting to Fish Lake for New Year's required a snowmachine. Snow would be 4 feet deep already up there, and ice was never a question. Today, we worry whether or not we'll have ice by New Year's, and snowmachines are a distant thought. I believe something is happening with our climate. The meat the world consumes accounts for ALOT (most) of the global warming, not just politics. [signature] Re: [remo_5_0] Ice Check - TheFishSlayer - 12-13-2016 Whoa whoa whoa I am not changing my diet to better the planet. I am a meatatarian. arcasm: [signature] Re: [PBH] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 There's no doubt the last ten years are different than my growing up years. We used to be froze over by Thanksgiving or shortly after and we'd hunt geese on the ice through December, or they'd all migrate and be gone. Not the last five years now ice by Christmas is getting to be iffy. It's not a political issue its just an observation with enough years to remember years gone by. Will it stay this way? Not likely it will either go one way or the other, I'm not a believer one way or the other on your climate change can o worms you're trying to stir up, but I expect I'll be able to use my ice gear for a few weeks anyway. Short ice seasons make them seem more fun because you don't get tired of them before they are over. Sure makes winter go faster since you want it to stick around. Anyway catch ya later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] Ice Check - TheFishSlayer - 12-13-2016 I drove up there yesterday too. It does look nasty. There were spots with standing water on top of that rotten ice. I saw the open water too. I am not getting my hopes up of going out there any time soon. [signature] Re: [TheFishSlayer] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-13-2016 I really hoped I'd find somebody fishing yesterday, because I wanted to be on the ice this weekend, but what I found sort of deflated my hopes. Oh well Hyrum was still ok from the boat, but it was a lot slower this last weekend. Fish moved out of east end too for some reason. Anyway catch ya later J [signature] Re: [PBH] Ice Check - FatBiker - 12-14-2016 I believe the science, I'm liberal and a vegetarian. Kinda lonely living in Northern Utah. Larry [signature] Re: [FatBiker] Ice Check - SkunkedAgain - 12-14-2016 Shouldn't be too lonely when ya have fishing friends. Later J [signature] |
