Here's what I'll be doing.
-count the days till it's spring again.
-work on modification for my fishing raft.
-watch fishing YouTube videos.
-buy tackle and change out fishing lines.

Meet up with a hard deck guy and fish for something you normally wouldn't get to target, and/or fish rivers. Ice fishing is cheap, cheaper if you already fish and especially cheap if you run an ultralight spinning rig. First and foremost: get some picks to wear and learn ice safety even if you're only going on 10"+ ice. Ice is safer than boating as long as you follow the rules.
Then just get a light ice rod and stick an ultralight spinning reel on it. You can fish with normal 4-6 lb test, or take your usually spinning line off and put 50 yards or so of ice line on to avoid abrasion and ice-up. Get one pack of green ratfinkees and one pack of pink or orange, some waxworms, and maybe a 3 dollar plastic skimmer (careful though, I broke mine and decided to get one of those big tough steel ones with a chisel.) After the ice season starts you can easily go to the lakes with good safe ice and find holes to kick open and fish. Maybe $30-$40 and you're in business.

Instead of an auger, use a chain saw and cut a huge circle. Chunk it up with a sledge and voila...open water fishing !!!

I've always enjoyed Ice fishing but haven't been in over 5 years. I do miss it though. However, since I retired I head south for the winter months and fish southen Utah lakes. This past fall I purchased a Sea Eagle pontoon boat and I'm looking forward to using it instead of fishing from shore at Sand Hollow and Quail Creek.

I'm going quail and duck hunting in Arizona. That will get me through to mid-january. From then till March is the longest time of the year. I'm thinking I might take up posting about fly tying.

The down time is not bad. I'm always doing something to improve my boat. Also boat is garaged making it accessible year round and it's ready at a moments notice to get out on some soft water. When not modifying boat I'm carving and painting lures for the next season. I like Bear L during winter, never know if it will cap over and when it does down time doesn't to be for very long.

making a list of parts to buy, to make stuff to catch Kokanne,
and thinking about giving some away to some of the people I take fishing.
and the cost keeps going up.

I love fishing for Kokanee
minn kota has came out with a NEW TERROVA trying to save money to buy it.
and hoping the price comes down.
