Pelican 1-7 - a_bow_nut - 01-08-2017 Pelican is still fishing well. Caught a dozen bass and 60+ bluegill fishing in 14 FOW using small jigs and wax worms and Gulp maggots for bait. Plenty of gills to catch but most of them are only 6-8 inches long. 8-10 inches of ice wit 2-3 inches of snow on top. I'll have my snowmobile to get around. Can anybody tell me where to launch and some general areas to try? Thanks. On the east side of the lake there are places to pull off the road and park right next to the ice. After that you will see where most people are fishing out two or three hundred yards from shore. The fish were hitting all of the jigs that I was using but the most popular one was the Maniic Gizzy Bug in the smallest size that they make and any of the four colors that I tried. In many cases you can just follow the tracks out from the parking areas and find holes with evidence of success. The fish usually stay in defined areas. But it doesn't hurt to look around and find your own honey holes. Lots of good spots, once you find the preferred depths. Sometimes fishing near visible weeds can be productive. A lot of guys simply follow Hwy 88 down from Hwy 40 (the east west route between Roosevelt and Vernal) toward Ouray. The road runs right next to Pelican on the east side and there is parking on the road as well as down on the flat just off the road. A good place to launch your sled. Just be careful to check for thin ice around the edges if the lake is filling. It is shallow for a ways out and subject to thin ice problems. There is a launch ramp for the bass boat crowd on the west side of the lake. It is a good place to leave fishing buddies while you rocket out to the good fishing. I've been looking for a new spot to leave folks behind. That should work nicely. [cool] [/#][/font] [signature] Re: [dubob] Pelican 1-7 - lakepowellnut - 01-10-2017 Pat is right. We always park at the boat ramp and work the whole lake from there. The restrooms are also open if you need to sit down to do your business. The girls like the restrooms! Make the trip you'll enjoy it, it's a bit far for a day run so we use to stay for a couple days.
