walking the plank - PerchPile - 01-15-2017 It used to be a bad thing, to have to "walk the plank," Now it sounds like everyone is jumping on it! Actually, it's still a bad thing to have to walk the plank. I hate it when the edges get soft! [signature] Re: [PerchPile] walking the plank - SkunkedAgain - 01-16-2017 It's better to walk the plank than take the leap not knowing whether the ice will hold or not... Friday I was a little stupid and waded in to the top of my boots and then took the leap onto the ice, it held luckily or I would have gotten very wet, very quickly... With the plank at least you know the first step will hold you... I won't say any more about planks if you know what I mean... Later J [signature] Re: [SkunkedAgain] walking the plank - PerchPile - 01-16-2017 You shouldn't feel bad about this plank discussion. In my opinion it provides great information and what rules should apply. There are a lot of newbees that haven't got a clue concerning what is right and what isn't. The only way to learn is to talk about it. I want to find an old extension ladder, the smaller variety. It would be a lot lighter the a plank. But you can bet I won't be leaving it behind. But I still prefer taking a chance that maybe someone else already hauled one down. If I get wet coming off, at least I'm heading home! If it's a steep bank, I just don't! Going in over my head just scares the crap out of me! Back in the day, my buddies and I would fish some pretty questionable ice. But now that I have a family and would have my little one with me, the though of anyone going through the ice gives me the heebie geebies! Which probably explains why I haven't been out on the ice in two seasons. I had planned to hit it hard this year, because the little one is pretty sure on his feet now, but all the slush talk has kept me away. I need my little one to be able to stay dry, or it would turn into a very short trip! Not a problem getting on.....big problem getting off. [signature] Re: [Jedidiah] walking the plank - PerchPile - 01-16-2017 Yes it would sink. And it would probably slip like sled runners, unless you attached a short board, perpendicular to each end, for traction. I wouldn't want to be standing on a plank either, if the edge gave way. I would love to have a small flat bottomed aluminum boat to slip across those spots, but most places are too steep to want to deal with something like that. O-well, fish when we can, and wish when we can't. [signature] |
