FirstLight, The Nick - CFF Classic Day 2, Bass, 10/15/17, Solo
#1
I had every intention of fishing midlake and lower end of Nickajack with day two being out of Sullivans. I have been spending a good bit of time down there over the last couple months fishing the grass and we have had some success; but nothing real reliable. I pretty much made a game time decision to head up the river and fish some of my old Brownfish areas and I’m glad I did. I didn’t catch anything big but had some fun; just what the doctor ordered after yesterday’s debacle. Caught all the black bass species that we were all chasing. Ended up getting a limit. It would have been nice to put a big SM in the bag but it wasn’t meant to be.

I was a little late to the party up river because I was in the last flight at blastoff and my boat only runs 60mph lol. I’m going to have to change that. The place I wanted to hit first had a boat on it so I kept trucking up to the dam. I saw a few boats below the gates so decided to hit the jetty. Caught a couple shorts right away on a SB so my confidence went up. Threw a shaky at the coffer dams and picked up my first keeper, a chunky LM. I stayed with that pattern probably longer than I should have, but I was picking up fish here and there so it was hard to leave it. Caught my second LM keeper on a shaky while talking to Leonard and Chris.

Made a move to the tail race. Played around up there and caught a couple white bass. Had a keeper spot on a blade bait that came unbuttoned on the swing.

Went down river and found a school of spots on a riprap bank and was able to fill my limit in short order. I left those fish biting to go hunting for a big Brownfish but just couldn’t make it happen....

Thanks again to the committee for all the hard work. And congrats to all those that got paid.

See y’all next year.
