With Copyman on vacation this week I took some time off yesterday and we headed to Chickamauga. Put in right after lunch and headed a ways up river to an area that has produced when it gets colder. At least it produced for him. At the end of a couple of hours he boated 4-5 largemouth (3 keeper) and a large Alabama Smallmouth. All fish caught on plastics in 4-20 feet of water. Me...I was just a spectator on this day as the only two fish I hooked (one on a dropshot and one on a lipless crank) both came unhooked.
It was nice to get out for a little while. We normally pack it up in the colder weather but are working to fish more this winter. Takes some getting used to the water being drawn down and learning the places you can and cannot go this time of year. Plus we took on a huge wave on the river on Black Friday from the convoy of boating morons heading to the boat parade and I was concerned about damage to ole Betsy, but she sees to have persevered. Of course, during that incident apparently a bottle of attractant got tossed around in my tackle storage and now some of tackle has that yummy smell of Gulp Alive.
All in all a good, albeit cool day on the water.
