[size 2]Fresh Water Fishing Report for:
Delaware Lakes, Ponds, Rivers and Upper Chesapeake Bay
Updated: April 23, 2004.
Sassafras River, MD
We arrived at the Sassafras River today at sunrise and started the day at Lloyd's Creek, after running a little ways out in the Bay to another quick spot first. The water temperature is a little cooler in Lloyd's as many may already know. It has one the strongest currents around as it funnels the water through the narrow opening to the Creek. It was 58 degrees early in the day, but it warmed to 60.2 by about noon. Bass were in the creek in several areas, but were not as hot as we feel they should be for this time of the year. Several bass were keepers but didn't go over 16 inches. We left Lloyd's when a few other boats who were prefishing for a tournament arrived, and we went to 2 of our good spots nearby that is usually pretty hot, and is not known by anyone as far as we can tell, as there have never been any boats there with us in the last 7 years even once! We had a friend who was in a tournament this weekend with us helping him to pattern the fish and learn some new techniques, and it worked out well! We caught 4 bass real fast in this spot, and all were keepers, and the largest was 3.1 pounds. All these bass came on spinnerbaits, which they have not been hitting well in the last few weeks anywhere, so we were surprised. We didn't want to beat these fish up, so left after the fourth fish, and headed for Turner's Point. After arriving at Turner's, we worked our docks and wood and picked up 2 bass that measured there. They were not as big as we have been catching in the docks earlier in the week, but were quality fish nonetheless! They were on Terminator Pros Top Secret jigs in Black/Blue, with a Bearpaws Trailer in Blue. We always load everything with MEGASTRIKE just to make sure. It can't hurt, I know that! We worked down towards the marina in several other areas and did well along the way, picking up 3 more bass, and one that was 3 pounds, but was a male. Pretty big bass for males. We found the patterns we were looking for, and left them alone at 1:15 PM, and headed for home. We have been on the water for 4 days now, and we are taking off Saturday, but have a guide trip in Delaware on Sunday, so we will be reporting on that when we get home.
