fish skins
#1
Hello All
I am interested in purchasing fish skins to put on the backs of longbows that I make. Generally I'm interested in sturgeon or carp, but I would be interested in any skin 30" or longer. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My suggestion, go fishing [Wink]

Or maybe check out the taxidermists near you. They might have stuff kicking around they could give you.

Hey Dubie
What a great suggestion. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do all of the things that I'd like to do. When I back a bow with rattlesnake skin, I don't have to go and wrassle a rattlesnake, thank God. I was thinking that by buying something that a fisherman might be throwing away, I might be supporting a fishermen's hobby. What do you think my chances are?

Interesting concept, are you looking for fish skins with or with out scales on? and how do you want them preserved for delevery? meaning do you want them salted or air dired or frozen and shipped in dry ice?

you wont find any in michigan, it is prohibited to sell game fish or any part of game fish other than what is licensed by the state.

you can buy game fish from a licensed stock ponds, but after that you are not allowed to sell any part of them...

Have you concidered other reptiles? snake or lizard that are leagle to take that could be leagly sold as a leather product by a game harvester?

Thanks for responding. I have bows backed with rattlesnake and python. I haven't been able to find lizard skins long enough yet. The fish skins can be air dried and the scales left on. Thanks, Brian
