SpurHunter, Chick, Grabblin for catfish, 7-2-09, Idiot buddy....
#1
Well, a buddy of mine wanted some catfish for a fry on Sunday, so I was only too eager to offer my grabblin abilities for the cause. We hit new water in the main lake to see what would happen. First hole, no fish....thought this aint going well. The hole was perfect, should have been one in there. Next hole, felt really good, but no attack on my feet. Dove down, and as the rod went in, a fish HAMMERED it, and I had him on there for a second while pulling him forward. He came off right as I was about to grab him, so I reached in with my left hand, and he bit the BLEEEEEEP out of it, and I hung onto his bottom jaw. I had to run my right hand in to get behind his gills, and then brace with my feet against the hole to hog him out...by this time, Greg tells me he was getting nervous, i was down there for a LONG time, and then I burst out of the water holding a PB 22.4lb blue cat! And in only ONE dive! Whoo-hoooo!!!emoDance emoDance I did pay the price, as the blues are super-mean, and that fish flat wore me out!
We continued checking holes and not having any luck, about 4 holes later i did make contact with a small fish, but the hole was so dang deep, I could never touch the fish again, and he was not interested in biting anymore, so off we went. Next hole,, nothing, and when Greg decided to launch himself over the gunwale of my boat getting back in, landed right on his rib and BROKE it!emoBawl emoBang That sure got him whining the rest of the trip...
Very next hole, as I walked up to it from the sea-wall, I hollered to the cripple in my boat, "hey I see a hole", he blows me off, and I slip in, check the hole, FISH HOME!! I tell him to come play, and he tried to help but was in too much pain. What a wuss! The entrance was very small, but the hole was wide inside the cavity. It took about 5 minutes, but I finally got him to latch onto my hand, and when I went to yank it out, I got stuck...we had to dig the entrance out twice its size, and I then could yank out this fine 21lb flattie!
We tried a bunch more places, that should have had fish, but were all empty, must be coming to a close, but still not a bad couple hour trip. Well...except for the idiot who broke his rib.emoBigSmile
