Carl Guffey, Chilhowee, Bass and Walleye, 7/11/2009, Lowdrag
I finally had a chance to fish Chilhowee for the first time this year. As some of you may remember I was spending a lot of time up there this spring working with various group on habitat projects. I really just wanted to see how they were doing but it worked out to be a good day.
http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/f...rt=1
http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/f...rt=1
Lowdrag and I were on the water at 6:10 this morning, we should have been about 30 mins earlier. David caught a 16 inch smallmouth on the first cast. It hit the water, fish grabbed it , the fight was on. David was really worried that our day was finished but it just got better from there. We moved down the bank I missed two good fish, third time was a charm, 3 lb'er. Three casts later David hooks up on a 4.1, we caught 1 more bass on that bank and the top water bite was over. Moved around to the west side of the mountain staying in the shade and I either missed or lost three more fish on a shakey head. The sun was getting higher so we moved up into Abrams Creek hoping to catch some current. It was a nice boat ride but we did not catch a fish.
We finally moved back into the main lake area and started working some deep structure. We caught four more fish during the afternoon, two walleye, which I am having for a meal tonight, a slick largemouth, and a medium-mouth. This fish came out of the water brown, turned light green. The mouth was in front of the eyes, the dorsal fins were joined, and no toothpatch. I think that this fish was a smallmouth-largemouth hybrid, in natural light it was one strange looking fish. The bite was tough today we missed more than we landed, still a really good day.
We caught fish today on Chug-bugs, Spook Jr.,Shakey-head, TR worm, and a drop shot.
Best five: was a lot of fun.
