We woke up this morning just after 4:00 AM to hit the lake a daybreak... looked at the weather map and saw some big rain building up quickly emoEek With the threat of T-storms, we decided we'd better just go back to sleep.... NOT! emoBig
We hit the lake a daybreak in search of some of those schoolers ppl have been catching. First, we hit a grassy ( well it was last year emoScratch )cove to throw some spooks and poppers.... the only thing that looked at them was a river crane emoRolleyes
Saw a lot of CBA folks doing their thing on the ledges... so, we ran on out to another spot that we've caught fish in the jumps before... not much there, no blowups, but did catch a few slicks on CB and CR. We checked another area I used to frequent years ago when club fishing for a morning TW bite, and found some emoTongue By this time, it was 7:30 already, but we did hook a few with 3 being solid keepers on spooks, poppers, CR, spinnerbaits in about 18 ft of water. Fish didn't stay up top long, but if you got a lure close to them it got bit emoSmile
After the CBA folks vacated the channel ledges, we moved up to one and I pulled out the dropshot and started bouncing it off the bottom while watching the graph... started in 20 FOW, and worked out to 36' and found fish on the graph and on my hook emoCool ... caught 3 quick ones on the dropshot. The fish were sitting in one area about the size of a barrel. You had to get right on top of it, but when you did, you got nailed emoThumbsup I hung one, set the hook and kept tension on it without bringing it up very fast ... being the gentleman I am, I kept hold of the fish and trolled up to let my wife get bit too. Was a good idea at the moment emoIdea .. but, once she got her fish stuck and I started putting more pressure on mine, I realized I had a good 'un emoDance ... but it had run way up under the boat and toward the front. I worked on it, bringing it up... seems like it would take 2 feet of line back everytime I pulled in 3... got it to the top (it was a pig!) and it took off under the boat again and toward the front... on the other side of the trolling motor emoBang emoBang I couldn't pull the TM up before it got my line hung on it... lost the fish emoBawl ... I probably could have boated it if I positioned the boat better to work the fish, but I wanted my wife to get a fish too .... oh well, there will be more emoSun
She did manage to catch her first pig and jig fish today... had to get a picture of it and turn it loose so it could get back down to it's 35' deep home emoFish
We had a good morning, fished until about 11:00, right before the rain... caught 25+ bass with a few keepers... best 5 may have weighed 10ish. Saw Churly pulling his boat out at HBSP... he said he was going home to die after doing the CBA ... lol
