Take me to the River
#1
Wanted to see if I could get a quick repeat of the action from my last trip to the river. Had a couple hours to play in the afternoon heat, so hit the Bear. Threw out a worm and shrimp, while I went to pitching a white, chartreuse feather tail. Got some bumps, and picked up some small bass. Then a small crappie.

Kept at it, and got into some better Crappie, then some better bass. Mostly little largemouths, but a couple footlongs. Nothing bigger this time.

Switched off from the jig (after the second one got beat to hell!) and pitched some spinners. Tried a few different flavors, and had some good takes, and hooksets. Did have a couple nice Crappie that gave the last minute headshake, as they flipped a fin and a hook. Papermouths!

I did rebait the empty hooks on my second rod and watched it twitch shortly after. Hooked up a cute channel-ette. This time was Crappie focus, and it worked out. Maybe next time Kitty focus!

Those crappie are small enough to be craps. Nice work though. I myself have thought of traveling north for the crappie up there.

Thanks J - ya flatten me! Gotz the skilz (that's a good one!) Thing I was pleased by was to change focus from bass to crappie, and have it work. Figured that feather tail would be a good one for the flatfish! Need to try pitching a curly tail plastic, or some wacky worms.

There were quite a few rushes, and panicked flips from the younglings. Still kinda hoping some of that might be our toothy friends making mayhem, or it could be the chunkier bass.

Do need to give better attentions to the kitties. Seems like if I try - the kittens are willing. But there's gotta be some bigger hunks out there.

FFL - that spinner was one of a set - the crappie like it too, if you check the picture below. Didn't get to trying the different flavors. Them's trout spinners, just don't tell the bass that! So far - I think I've got them fooled! [Wink]

Not sure how big YOUR craps are bud - but these fish were 9-12 inches. Not monsters - considering I've heard of 15-16 inchers in them waters. At least for Crappie. The Bass take it to a different level.

I didn't bother to photograph the dinks, but landed
probably a dozen Crappie, and some 20 bass all said and done. A number of the bass this time were round 6 inch. But got into a few in the teen class.
Maybe next time - bigger bait . . .

Later in the fall the side-let (don't know if it goes in or out - both) fills with minnows, and that's a real turn on for the predators! Found bunches of bitty sunfish, and gills past years, but not so much now, or yet maybe.

Now go catch you some cats, the contest is almost over! (should be telling myself that too, I have the same kitten problem so I've been chasing the Newton fish lately)

I think somebody is exaggerating if they are saying 16" crappie. I've seen a 14 once and that's a big fish at least for Cutler. Maybe they didn't really pull a tape on it and estimated it's size. Somehow my measuring device has shrunk all my fish. I think most will find a 12" crappie is a nice fish and a 13 will seem like a hog. So Yote I think you got some good ones. One of these days I'll sneak over and try and see if I can break my homecourt skunk streak. Crazy how busy life seems to be. Later J

The coloration on the fish looks a lot more prominent this time around. Looks like you have one of each flavor of bass there. I like the variety of species I'm seeing come out of Cutler. I'll have to go exploring there soon. Idaho keeps distracting me though.
