I think it's fair to say - most all - if not all - mods are passionate about fishing.
Likewise - I think the folks who are positioned as mods have a demonstrated interest in the success of the forum.
Those two qualifications would also lend themselves to folks who likely have strong opinions about various aspects of fishing, and forum life.
In my short time as a mod - I've found the biggest challenge is keeping my to myself. (I'm one that usually has it firmly pegged in a cheek most times!)
So it gets tough to refrain from expressing one's own opinion, even though we are supposed to remain neutral.
I made the mistake on a post about grammar, and got an earful for sharing my opinion. Never meant to offend anyone, but it's just so gosh-darned easy to do over the electronic airways!
I have come to sense a level of "us vs them", and personally - don't think it's called for. Mods aren't out "to get you", but we are asked to police posts, and help ensure the forum rules are followed. I'm still learning, and am sure to engage in a few mis-steps, or mis-spokes.
As Koch pointed out, this was not an isolated post it ties to a series of posts that have tended to be less that flattering to the DWR management, and policies. True it's not our job to defend the DWR, but we are asked to abide by the rules and regulations they put forth. In turn - in MY mind - that says we should respect the lawmakers, as well as the laws they make. Doesn't mean we always have to agree or fully understand. But would seem we should "mind" more than "undermine" the department.
So - here I am expressing my opinion. Sorry, sometimes hard not to.
