Quick Bear Bop
#1
Little afternoon venture up the river. Not much to report. Bumped into a few small sunfish, some basslings, and the ever present mudcats. Not the big bad channel I was hoping for. A number of carp flip flopping around, but not that many, and not real playful. Hooked up one small-one.

Ben joined me, and we fished some backwaters - with numbers of mudcats messing, but nothing exciting.

Ben headed off before sundown, but silly me - just can't pack up when I should. On my way out - I pitched a spinner rig, and bump bump - something shiny flashed, then flipped me off.

So of course I kept pitching.
I'd found a pool of papermouths! Landed a nice footlong, hooked several - missed a few, and some were just flat out rude. Kept flipping me off!

Slow day ended up not that Crappie after all.

When I saw the title I was hoping to see that you Mr CYS finally took on the big blue....BEAR LAKE! Those pappermouths got that name for a reason....there is no horsing them around to get them in. My 1st one I had to crank up the bank "crane style" and sure enough that mouth was shredding like wet toliet papper. Still got him though!

When I do make it up to the Big Bear - it won't be for a quickie. Maybe this fall . . .

Yup - those slabs are pretty effective at the "self release". Sure disappointing to lose a tasty morsel like them! Been getting into a fair few, but still nothing over a foot. But - a footlong Crappie still trumps an 8 inch gill, by my reckoning! Plus - one thing about panfish - they aren't loners!

So - you're saying no "Horse Crap" - I'll keep that in mind!
