Scofield or Berry?
#1
I'm taking the kids ice fishing on New Years day. I have narrowed it down to the Berry or Scofield but want to get some experienced opinions. I haven't been to either yet this season but I'm well equipped and want to show them a good time.

So, in your opinion...

Berry or Scofield and any hotspots would be much appreciated.

I would go with Strawberry, as long as you have a way to get away from the over-fished areas. I use a snowmobile regularly and do quite well on the lake. If you don't have a machine then I recommend making the walk to get away from everybody. There is a skiff to 2" of snow on the ice making it perfect for walking. The ice is at about 8" and clear and healthy.

As far as locations: find fishy looking areas, points, inlets, coves. Look for 15-30 feet of water and fish the entire column. Fish will school on the bottom and in the middle of the water column-don't be afraid to switch baits and depths to find hungry fish. White tube jigs, ratfinkys, spoons, and jigs tipped with some bait will do the trick. Try aggressive jigging, dead sticking, or light movement-they can get finicky so try to find what they will bite on.

I have fished both lakes this year. Strawberry always produces more and better quality fish for me. My opinion is slightly partial, but that ol' gal hasn't failed me yet to treat someone new to a great day.

Hope this helps. Have a great outing wherever you go!

I agree with the whipper snapper. I did really good at Renegade twice last week. Both days I fished half a day and caught over 30 fish. I fished Soldier Creek bay about 2 weeks ago and it was slow. Only caught 14 then.... It usually treats me better.
