I'm going to be in Boise in a week or so house sitting for my daughter. She lives off of Broadway about four or five blocks from BSU. I've always wanted to do some fly fishing in town on the Boise River. Can anyone give me any suggestions or help?

Throw Big Lures. Target the browns. Go talk to the guys at Turner's off of state street. Buy Smoky Davis.

There's plenty of access around the Broadway bridge & parkcenter bridge. If the floaters get too hectic, try fishing near the glenwood bridge. There are a few ponds around town too that get stocked.
If you float it, there are plenty of places where you can drift out of the flow and just hang out and fish. There is a tube/raft rental company at Barber park, and a bus that will ferry you from Ann Morrison Park (the take-out point) back to Barber. There's a fee to park at Barber though, I usually parked in Ann Morrison Park, took the bus up, then floated back to my truck.
And whatever you do, DO NOT miss the take-out at Ann Morrison. There's a diversion dam right after that park that's always full of big tree branches, it'll hang you up and leave you waiting for a rescue, if you don't drown on it.
Pull up that part of town on google maps or google earth, you'll see some easy acess areas and parking spots along the river. There's also a "greenbelt" walking/biking path that runs along the river thru town.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy your experience on the river in town.
I hope some of us can increase the practice of C&R when it comes to the bigger fish so we all may enjoy this fishery for years to come.

interesting...how often do you fish the downtown boise? and please tell me what species of caddis? how many fish have you caught with hoppers on that river? ever see one on the dtich? watta bout mayflies..any of those on the river this time of year? if so, tell me which ones.
EF..hope this reply isnt too late. call Idaho Anglers and ask for Tim, or give Anglers a buzz and ask for John or Eric. one of these guys or others in the shops should be able to set you up with accurate info instead of someone who comes off sounding like they know what they are talking about but really doesn't have a rodent's rear clue or a fraction of one.
have fun...

you tell me if your suggestions will work on selective fish or not. after all you have never fished the river and know nothing compared to the boys at the link you posted which i suggested he contact instead of following your joke recommendations.

thanks for the upgrade sunshine. what you dont realize is i'm 13 ahead of you, and you ain't even close to a donut shop. fools of a feather flock together and if you prefer to listen to a self proclaimed non-entity diety who has never wet a toe in the downtown boise over the advice of experts like those pros in a fly shop whose knowledge base is far superior, then go for it lightbulb. stay stupid....
