We are heading up to salmon this Friday and hve never spent any time there, in fact only have driven through. So any info would be apprciated, fishing, sites to see, unusu
lor special sites would be as well.
I willard probably take both spinning and fly gear with me and could be wading.
Thought we would go through the sacagawea park as well. Thanks

i think going and looking at the old mining areas is way cool to look at the history of that area. also if you come over from twin and drop over from sun valley in to redfish and follow the river into challis that is a beautiful drive. If my memory serves me right there is an old dredge you can go look at. there is challis there is a little mining museum that i thought was neat.

Thanks
I have heard that between chalis & salmon the are some "caves" that were dug out for homes by some of the people there. Anyone know anything about that?

Yankee Fork has an old mining town and dredge that is pretty cool. It is out of Stanley a bit on the way to Challis. We have been there a couple of times. Also caught a few Bows from the shore at Alturas on spin gear. That is some pretty country up there!

Google Dugout Dick. That may be the caves you're referring too. I think the state or feds went in and blew up the caves after he passed if I remember correctly.

+1 on all the other comments. Those are some really cool sites.
Also the sockeye run should be peaking up to Stanley right now. It is a record return. Can't fish for them, but they would be really cool to see. They trap them on redfish lake creek and at the sawtooth weir. I think about making the drive up there and do a little camping, every year at this time just to see the rowdy buggers. And this is the year I should be doing it...
