Trying / Thinking about a quick trip to the Columbia to try my hand at catching a walleye. More than likely it would be around Umatilla.
Not looking for a "spot" but looking for some help on the kind of bait / lure to use this time of year.
Thanks.

Was there 3 weeks ago on the way to Sekiu for salmon. Didn't have my charts (Matt?) so just stuck to the area I kinda know. That would be marker 45 and Coyote islands just up from Boardman. Fished there and along the grain silos just down from that. We were fishing under a WA license which has a minimum 16" rule. We caught enough keepers to feed ourselves for a few days but that was it. Nothing more and nothing over 16.5". I think we averaged about 10 fish before a keeper. Bass was crazy good but no real big ones. It was fun but so hot. I would think with temps cooling it may start to pick up. Might want to try the end of boulder alley with the season changing. Good luck!

oh and white or chartreuse 2" Mister Twister double tail was the ticket for us. We did try dragging worm harnesses and casting cranks but the jigs did the best. I'm always free on Mondays and Tuesdays if you want to make a run. That is until Antelope opens anyway and then I'll be fishing the full moon at SFCR.

Thank you for your help. now just have to see if the plan comes together.
So you would rather fish around Boardman than Umatilla ?

I think Irrigon is the best just because it centers you in the Walleye area. Nice boat ramp and facilities also. We were camping at Crow Butte and I had fished with a friend from Boardman before so we just hit his old spots. Good luck to you.

Yes sir sure am. I figure on going down the afternoon of the 7th. I will be scouting antelope by day and then walleye fishing when the sun goes down. Planning on fishing the nights of the 7th, 8th and 9th. Anyone else planning on going?
