Does this site have a virus?
#1
When I click to see the idaho site it says google chrome needs updated and tries me to download something. I am betting it is a virus. Is anyone else seeing this? This is the only site that I am seeing this on.

I finally got ad blocker. It sucks to have to pay to go to your favorite sites.

I don't know for sure, but my computer slows down on the site and mine recently crashed. Since I've gotten my new computer i only access the site from my phone to be cautious. So far so good

What browser are you guys using? If it is Google chrome you might have to uninstall chrome and reinstall. That has helped a lot of users.

Management is aware of the problem but nothing so far. Here is a thread about it on the utah board:

The nice thing about Chrome. None of my ad blockers work. I like using Google. Just, never liked them following me. So. I stay off of Chrome.

I have been using Advanced system care for years. The Pro. Is like 10.00. For three computers. Run a free sample off of Cnet. Down load.

You can use Iron Browser, it is written from the Chromium source, uses all the same addons, and has all the Google tracking crap stripped out.

http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php

Then get adblock plus like you would on Chrome

You can also do a hosts file that blocks ads and spyware.

http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

With those things loaded I have forgotten how much junk is on some sites, and haven't seen an ad on youtube for years. Most ads just have a blank space in their place, if anything.

Ron,

I believe that it is one of the advertisers who are attempting to solicit malware. I too have seen the message and would warn folks to not click on the message, but to close the window down via Task Manager.

I too have seen it through Chrome. I am not aware who the admins/moderators are on this forum, but it should be looked into before users start becoming infected.

I belong to another fishing forum. The only ads I've seen there were for items clearly related to our fishing activities. I would prefer that this site adopt the same procedures.

OK Ron, I finally got an answer for you, this is what I was told,
"We shouldn't have any advertisers running malware as we only have 6 active ad networks and all of them should be actively screening, but I will look into this. Typically it's a browser issue that claims a site is infected because it wants you to download a file. We will look into this but I would suggest the user update their windows defender and run a "Full Scan". "

Guys, I am an IT admin and I am fully aware of what the message that I received was. It was an attempt to get me to download malware. I received it as soon as the BFT page loaded, and I suspect that it is an ad that generated the prompt. It isn't a browser issue or a local infection as it has only happened on the BFT page.

The reply I gave came from a BFT manager, he was aware of your comments and was simply offering suggestions on what he has seen before, as he said, he is looking into the issue. I have passes on you latest comments and will provide him a link to this thread as well, thanks.

Back a week or two - there was SOMETHING running like crazy. Adupdates or some such. Took FOREVER for a page to load in. The things was spin-spin-spinning.

I think the ads should be limited to NO SCRIPTS! all the animations, and autoload crap is unreal. And I'm sorry - but 90% of it is 100% non fishing related.

Bit frustrating. I just stayed away for a while. Seems a bit better.

I was wondering what happened to you, if you or anyone have any more problems please post it here or send me a PM, with as much detail as you can about the problem you are having. Any mod can also post any problem they are having on the main mod board, a thread has been started about it.

This was just passed down, doubt it helps but there has been a lot of good info shared on the thread, if anyone is still having problems please let us know, thanks.
A large percentage of the time this happens it proves to be the browsers, not the ads. We only have 2 companies rotating ads right now. Google is one and the other is highly restrictive and respected as well, so like a large majority of the times we look into this it is likely going to prove to be the browsers (an update), or one of the other many free programs that are widely available online. In 17 years we have only isolated ads serving malicious software 2 times.
Google Webmaster tools is reporting the website clean.
