I was just wondering if anyone has done any fishing up in Cache Valley the past couple of days. I was thinking about going after some cats on the Bear River-Cutler Res. I don't have a boat so I need some place good I can walk to. Anyone got any info? I haven't fished much up here and am looking for some pointers on the area.

Hey Hobofisherman! Are you living up there in Cache Valley???? There are some great spots to fish all over the place up there, warm and cold water species.
One of my favorite spots (from float-tube) is in the reservoirs around Preston, Id. Within 15 minutes of Preston, there are 5 res., some regulated as warmwater fisheries, some as trout fisheries. Big fish.
I know others like to shore fish at Newton, Culter, and parts of Hyrum. If you just want to wet a hook, 1st and 2nd dam of the Logan river are frequently stalked.
Good luck!

EmuScud-
I live in Logan but just moved up last July and haven't had much time to do any real fishing due to school and work. Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm not much into catch planters up the canyon. If I had a float-tube and an Idaho fishing license up around Preston sounds like it would be kind of fun. What's it cost for an out of state fishing license up there?

Ya know I think a one day license is $10. Full season is a bit pricier. When I was at USU I didn't fish the Idaho side enough to justify a non-resident season pass. Treasureton frequently gives up 20", 4 pound bows, artificial only. They tow you around pretty good on a tube.
Al's sporting goods up there in North Logan will have an occasional deal on tubes. If you already have waders, getting outfited for a tube won't take too much. Goto the Float Tube board here on BFT. The moderator there "Tube Dude" has some stuff he can send you on anything you could ever think about related to float tubing. Then once you have digested that information, he has some more! He is full of it [cool], information that is.
Go talk to Mark at Al's. He may still be there, maybe he's moved on. He is from the south and knows his stuff, especially Cache Valley fishing.

[#ff0000]I'm in the Cache Valley neighborhood. I'm afraid I've been playing more with fishing toys the past few weeks than actually fishing, but that's gonna change soon. Hey, I've got a 12-foot aluminum, flat bottom, car-top boat that you are welcome to borrow any time. Just drop me a pm. It's got paddles with it and/or a little 3 HP motor. One caution, you have to have the patience of Job with the outboard or you will shoot it, toss it overboard, and put it out of your misery. The carburetor is rather finicky. It's kind of nice on smaller ponds like Newton, Wellsville, Porcupine, Tony Grove, or some of the Cutler launches. [/#ff0000]

I was out to Cutler a couple times about two weeks ago--all I got was tiny mud cats. One of the easiest spots to get into is the Benson bridge. It can get crowded there, but you can always get something on a night crawler. For other spots, try and get yourself a good map and just look for roads crossing or coming close to the marsh. You might also try just heading out there and wandering around until you find a spot.
If you're into trout (but not planters, just like me) I can suggest a few other Cache Valley spots. I've been at school here in Logan for 4 years now and I've had the most luck on the Blacksmith Fk. I usually use a silver mepps and always catch something. Don't pass up the Left Fk. of the Blacksmith--it's small but it has plenty of fish. I've also had luck on the E. Fk. of the Little Bear (below Porcupine) but it's often low and the fish get skittish. It's always worth it to put in a little time on the Logan. I've had a hard time figuring that one out, though--even after electrofishing it all last summer (gotta love summer jobs).
Hope this helps.

What about Manua or Hyrum Dam? Anyone have any reports on those spots? I tried fishing both of them last weekend but the wind was crazy, needless to say I didn't spend much time fishing. Hyrum Dam sure looks full, which is a good sign. Last summer I caught a lot of smaller sized LMB out of Manua from the west shore.
Looking forward to any replies! Thanks guys!
