Berry N-Ice?
#1
Anyone been up to the lake? I would think the bays might be getting some ice with all of this cold. Even colder next week, think it will be fishable by next weekend?

I know a few people on here having been hitting it hard of late, but haven't heard anything for a week now.

C'mon cold... this is killing me! [pirate]

I called the marina the first of this week. And all they said was that whatever ice has been building overnight melts during the day. So it's close, but we need some extended cold to cap it over.
The way the forecast looks for next week, that could be just what we've been waiting for!

I hear the main lake is still about 40, so that'll take some time. Mud Creek and some small shallow bays may start to ice up. They plowed the road to the Marina today, and should keep it open hereafter so I'm going to put the winch on the truck and try to get a boat in the water up there early next week. I'll post if it happens.

Last year I called the marina and they mentioned nothing was safe, no ice and boats were launching still, etc. That same day I read a post that someone fished Mud Creek with 4" of ice and yes, boats were out there.

Is the marina usually pretty good to call or are they usually pretty vague and/or conservative until the ice gets real thick?

Talked to the marina today, they said 12"+ of snow on the ground and it's cold. Ramp is iced up and snow covered, but 2 people launched today. Hoping those 2 people are BFT'ers! [crazy]

Also, they mentioned no ice. I still wonder if certain bays are starting to freeze up at the heads. Over the last week, the high in 7 days was only 38, with it mostly freezing the entire time. I just tend to believe them for what they can see out the window and that always takes longer for ice. Hoping someone will report from this weekend with water temps and visuals.

Don't forget one important factor in all this - the w%^#! (Sorry, I can't say that 4 letter word meaning "moving air, esp. a natural perceptible current of air parallel to or along the ground.")
That thing messes up some really good ice set-up, expecially on larger bodies of water.
