Tincanfsh and I hit Strawberry yesterday. We were a little worried that, based upon recent reports, that the catching would be slow. No reason to be concerned we landed 68 fish. Had we caught one more rainbow we would have caught one. Except for about 5 smaller fish, all were in the upper end of the slot, and the largest were 21 inchers. A few of them were extremely heavy for Strawberry cutts. Caught nearly all of them, right on the bottom, vertically jigging in water between 25 and 34 feet deep. We tried casting jigs while we were anchored and immediately caught some near the surface. Caught them on a variety of colors but various shades of white in size 2 1/2" worked the best. Tipped with both minnow and crawlers and a little salt shrimp Smelly Jelly didn't hurt. Water temperature was 48.6 degrees. A little chilly early, but the wind didn't start blowing until around 2:00 PM. There were three tubers in the area and they were catching some fish also. One said he was using a purple Wooly Bugger and letting it sink about 8 feet.

It was a near perfect trip. Besides losing a nice rod and reel combo to the bottom of Strawberry. Thanks again Kent for the great company and enjoyable trip.

Way to go guys!
Last week I did best in 22' of water. Its that time of year when you have go after them in shallower water and that makes it tougher to spot them on the finder.

It was really strange because we caught most of the fish in the deeper water and right on the bottom.

It was a great day, but we have had days that have been even better, and MGB has had many days when he has caught that many fish all by himself and his fishing partners have also caught plenty. IMHO, having multiple anglers fishing from the same boat is both a plus and a minus. Having multiple offerings in the same area some times seems to attract more fish. Ideally we would have liked to have moved around a little more often when the fishing slowed; however, the main outboard would not start (it was already scheduled for repairs, and I thought that it would start -- just maybe not run perfectly) so we were limited to using the 4.5 horse trolling motor to get around.

Nice report Kent, sounds like Ira and I would have been better off going to the Berry than the Bear on Saturday. The temperature at Garden city was 16* when we arrived, any idea what it was at Heber or Strawberry?

Tomegun reported on the UDWR website that on Saturday at Strawberry that it was "24* at about 8:30 and 43* at 3:30." I know it felt warmer than the forecast of a high in the mid 30s. Surprised you weren't chasing bambi on Saturday. How was the fishing at Bear Lake?

If it was 24* after the sun came up, it must have been below 20* when it was still dark.
We hunted bambi a few weeks earlier during the muzzleloader hunt. We only caught three cutts with the largest being 20 inches. We were hoping for a repeat of two weeks ago when we caught these two.

Yes, we were deer fishing. Our 10th annual opening day of the deer hunt at strawberry. We didn't catch numbers, but we got gooduns! We caught a dozen over 20". 6 over the 22" slot. The biggest was 24 1/4.
We were throwing 5" and 7" jerkbaits all day. Big Game hunting we was.
