So I talked to my First Sergeant today to see if I could somehow get the military to fit the bill on all the "goodies" that everyone wants to donate to my brother (kochanut) and the other soldiers in Iraq, but it doesnt look good. They use to have a program called "DATS" (if I remember right) that used to do things like that, but they got rid of it since it was not being utilized enough, so it looks as though we will have to come up with the money ourselfs. So what I was thinking is if whom ever wants to donate gear, stickers, BFT stuff or whatever lets meet on Thursday around say 7 pm at the UTA Park and Ride by the Saturn Dealership in Riverdale (just outside the Hill AFB Roy Gate, the frontage road going along I-15) and I will gather all the gear and shipping money and get it off in the mail Friday. I will bring that big box that I have in the garage from the grill I just bought yesterday and we can begin to fill it up. If you cannot make it or it is a bit too far see if you can get with someone that can make it up and get your gear to them. Please give your mailing/email address/info so I can send it to Zak (kochanut) so the soldiers can send a little something back in return even if it is just a picture using your gear to catch a fish!!! Anyhow, I am sure I left out a few things but chime in if I forgot anything or you have questions and please spread the word!!!! Thanks again!!!

I did give them a call but they told me they couldnt and gave me a long drawn out reason to why, seemed more like a lazy excuse not to help me out, so we will get 'er done and out by Friday. Heck if everyone chips in a few dollars here and there it wont be that bad and it may get there YEARS earlier than MWR!!!!![ ]

If anyone down south needs stuff hauled up to Riverdale, I am in Holladay or Midvale every day and I live in Syracuse. E-mail me at fishned69@aol.com and we can hook up and I will see that your donation makes it up to Riverdale Thursday.

TS,
E-mail me contact info and I will see if I can sweet talk my wife into helping us package the stuff. She does some e-baying and has some really good ideas on how to get stuff shipped and have it arrive in one piece. I have the box that my trolling motor came in, it's about 4 or 5 feet long by a foot or so by 6 inches. Might be the way to get rods there in one piece.
Let me know, Ed

A trolling motor box would perfect, I threw mine away, good thinking Fishned. I am sending a rod and rod tube that is pretty long so a longer box the better.

[cool][#0000ff]At your request, I am "unsticking" this thread.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]And, as I advised you in my PM, I have already send some BFT stickers, patches and a muscle shirt to your bro. He has agreed to place the stickers in "appropriate" places and to send us some pics. Can't wait to see him in the shirt.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]

Thanks again TD. Hopefully Kochanut doesnt get "Razzed" too much if he gets caught wearing the T-Shirt!!! "Technically" you are only suppose to wear your ABU's or PT Gear over there, but he has a very creative mind, so I am sure he will find a way around it, shoot, maybe he will catch one of those 50 lb Asp and put the muscle shirt on it!!!![ ]

Anyone else going to be able to make it to the meeting point? Just trying to get a number of people who might show up. Maybe I will just stay until 8:30 to give everyone enough time just in case they run into traffic!!! I told Bassrods in a PM, not to sound greedy by any means, but if people can throw in a couple bucks for the shipping that would be great. With all the gear we may collect it might cost a pretty penny which I am going to pay, but anything will help off-set the costs'!!! Anyhow, thanks again and see you Thursday.

I work at a shipping company, I can get great discounts on domestic and international freight.. even international Express if we want to do it.. Once we get the dimensions and the weight of the package.. I can get us a good quote.. much cheaper than someone just coming in off the streets.. Might be worth looking into.

Wade,
Thanks for the future contribution. Are you the one that Cliff (Bassrods) was talking about? You said you need to hook up with someone in SLC, does that mean you ARE or ARE NOT going to be able to make it to the meeting place. You need someone to pick your gear up? Look a few posts' up, one of the guys said he is in the Midvale/SLC area everyday and lives up this direction.
Thanks again.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. If you have rods I suspect that the box TS has will not be big enough. If others have rods we will need to get some packing tubes. I have several from Cabelas that will hold up to 7 foot rods.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Might have to break the shipment up into a couple or three packages at different times. The important thing is to git 'er done.[/#0000ff]

I too have a Cabela's tube for rods, but a few more wouldnt hurt just in case!!! I meant to look at work for a few, I know we have some for 20mm barrels, so even one of those will hold 10-15 rods!!! Writing myself a reminder as I type, see.....I am multi-talented!!![ ] And youre right again, as long as we get er done is all that matters!!!
