Howdy everyone,
I want to head out to Hyrum this weekend with some new timers who live up that way. We have never fished Hyrum but its a nice water and hopefully I can get into some fish like fishnate. Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard! You'll find a wealth of knowledge from these folks. I've never fished at Hyrum (yet) but good luck.

BBG Hyrum is a great place to take kids or some that have not cought a lot of fish.I would suggest using the basic combos worm/mallow or powerbait and I have always done good useing green power nuggets with a little chunk of worm, make sure it floats up off the bottom12-24".As for where to fish, all along the dam is free and probabably as good as any other spot this time of year!!Good luck and let us know how you do!!"BIG FISH RULE"M.H.

[#ff0000]I've caught a few OK LMB off the dam with a full nightcrawler strung completely through, with a bullet slip sinker a foot above it, reeled in at a snails pace, say an inch at a time between 5-10 second pauses. I don't fish much with power bait but have seen others do OK with it for the trout. Enjoy! [/#ff0000]

When I fish Hyrum it's either along the dam or between the boat ramp and the swim beach. I've caught plenty of decent perch, bass and trout in these areas. In my last report we fished the south corner of the dam. I'd suggest getting there early, the bite slowed down as the sun climbed toward 10:00 am (we were getting bit until the time we left at noon). With the cooler temps the trout have come shallow. We were fishing in about 10-12 ft, I'd guess, from the time it took for the bait to sink to the bottom. Ditto on the technics mentioned above. Additionally I've done well with 2 and 3" twistertails and #8 wooley buggers too.
