Chris and I had our first Astec Inc. tournament of the season Saturday and the G. As always, the weather leading up to the tx was awesome but Friday winter showed back up and Saturday showed tons of wind and snow. We were freezing to death by blast off and the river was brutal. We dont fish down there and pretty much junk fished all day in areas that didnt have 40 mph wind blowing. The fish seemed to like it too. We used mostly traps and had a small limit after a few hours. I figured we were only average and out of the money as always. Well in three casts in some calm water Chris caught a 6lber and I had one hooked in the side that I thought was a monster but didnt help. I netted his and got rid of mine and made another cast and caught another nearly 5lbs. Wink Started feeling better! Got to weigh in and everyone had less than 5 fish and the big fish was 4.70. I'm feeling MUCH better we dump our fish in and had 18lbs and the big fish was 6.40 and we took it all. I guess with the weather so bad and not being Guntersville fishers we got pretty lucky I was figuring it would take 20 to get paid. It took us 3 years fishing and we finally took one but our crowd ended up pretty small with the change in the weather. The wind was terrible and our lines were freezing up but it was worth tuffing out. Couldnt wait to go and get a hot bight to eat. Saw lots of A-rigs being used but not many fish that we could see bieng caught. I guess the fish didnt like that cold wind any more than we did and we found them in the little protected pockets. Tried to fish some in the back of Jackson cty park but too windy and the dead grass in there was so thick you could not fish anything in it. Maybe the weather will be better this Saturday.
