Zillion Smally-Smallies (Echo 7/1)
#1
Kind of delayed writing this report I know, but still wanted to share this...

Last Sunday we enjoyed a fine day at Echo with a picnic lunch. With the heat it was incredibly nice to hang out on the beach and take regular dips in the water to cool off. We fished the East side about 1/4 of the way down from the dam. This year the smallies are back on in a big way, schooling right off the shore and super-active.

My hare's ears surprisingly produced almost 3 to 1 over the traditional worm and bobber Ian was using. It may just be that I had it rigged up really light with a tiny thingamabobber so I was seeing the takes a lot better in the choppy water. I even got a quite a few fish on a size 12 orange I-don't-know-what-the-heck soft hackle-lish thing that I put on as an attractor. No idea what they thought it was, but it's cool when those random accidental homemade flies work! I shall make more Smile

Ian, who never seems to catch any trout in the places we go to try to catch awesome trout, somehow landed a gorgoeus 18" rainbow using a big rusty ancient spinner he found lying on the beach. Go figure.

I ended up with probably 40-50+ bass for the day, none much bigger than 7-8 inches but still a blast and really fun to fight.
