Has anyone ever taken a carp through the ice?
#1
I've been looking online and haven't found anything helpful. In the channel on American Falls I will mark giant red fish on my flasher, that i assume are, but I never have and don't recall ever hearing about anyone who has done it. Any ideas or theories why that is?

Caught a 5 pounder one time fishing for crappie. Saw a fish on the flasher and reeled up to it with a spoon and spikes. Fought great.

Do you remember when you caught it? The best information I can find suggests late ice like mid march.

I brought one up last winter that I would guess was mid twenties, tried to bring head though first and couldn't, swung him around and got ahold of tail and could only get up to his belly through hole before my eight pound test broke. Hooked him on my Jawjacker and the line just started screaming, big ole monster scales, took me a half an hour just to wear him out....They will bite in the winter.

The only one I have ever caught through the ice was about 8 lbs. Got it fishing for walleyes on Lake Thompson, S. Dak. Was late ice and I was a ways up in an inlet creek fishing a submerged stock pond. If I recall correctly it took a little Northland jigging spoon. Great fight on light line... Was disappointed that it was not an eye, though! [Wink]
