Live mice as bait??

I've bought many live mice over the years to feed pet snakes. You can get them at the petstores that sell them for snake food (not petsmart or petco) for about $2 a piece. They are quite docile, but when putting a hook through them you'd need gloves to be safe. They would start trying to bite all over the place when my snakes would be squeezing them to death.
