Nauticman, Below Chickamaga Dam, Bluegill, Smallmouth Bass, etc., 7/17/09, Alone
#1
Well, I wanted some bream for the frying pan, so I went below Chick. Dam from 11am-3pm today (not the best time of day in this heat). I had 100 crickets and used them all, but only caught 3 bull BGs. All the rest were, to me, disappointingly small. I kept about 25. I also caught a small channel cat on a cricket.

I thought the predicted flow was 13,000cfs, but it was 48,000 when I got there and decreased to about half that at 2pm.

After I used up my crickets, I chunked a green Gitzit. When I finished one retrieve and was about to pull it out of the water, a smallie hit it. It weighed 3.55 lbs. and was 19.5" long. I was in such a hurry to get it back into the water that I forgot to take a picture of it. I only got a picture of the head and cut off half the weight on the scales. This was one of those smallies with a slight hump back and it was very dark.

There was a lot of bait chasing (surface feeding) going on betw. the powerhouse and the RR bridge, but I think it was mostly skipjack, they actually came out of the water quite a bit. I did catch a small white bass on a spoon, but it was the only one.
