There were two ponds in Farmington across from Woodland park. We just called them the "carp ponds". As kids we would sit there all day catching carp, bluegill and crappie. As kids it doesn't matter what is on the hook as long as your pole is bending.
Probably 15-20 years ago they were drained and someone put a house on them. [:/]
The strangest thing about these ponds was (and I realize I may be called a liar because I have since been told they don't exist) there were thousands of jellyfish. Yes fresh water jellyfish, I saw them with my own eyes. We caught them in buckets and brought them home. They were from dime to nickel size, translucent and pumped their bodies like jellyfish to move.
I would be very interested if anyone knows of some insect that would match this description. I have watched shows on Discovery channel that said there are no known freshwater jellyfish... but unless someone can tell me what they were i am going to call them jellyfish. I have never seen anything like them since.
